Going to look at one this afternoon, just need something for commuting and the small amount of driving I do at the weekend. I am not too bothered about what it looks like, how fast it goes etc.… I just need something cheap and reliable.

It’s obvious that the Jap cars are going to be the most reliable, would just be interested to know if anyone has ever driven/owned one of these. I am aware that the automatic one’s tended to have some problems. The one I am going to look at is a 2L manual.

Cheers

I know a mechanic with a front wheel drive one - I understand they're also available in four wheel drive. He has an estate one, to get a bicycle in the back of.

He's not that impressed. It's slower and thirstier than the equivalent mondeo, with a smaller boot.

Pitslayer is the one to ask about Galants, not seen him post in ages though so don't think he's around anymore.

If you want something cheap, economical and aren't bothered about speed then I don't think the 2.0 Galant is the right car. 2.0 petrols aren't really economical, diesels yes, petrols you want a 1.6 or 1.8 really. The Galant is also known to be fairly poor on economy when compared to similar cars.

You're better off with a small japenese hatchback, a petrol Nissan Primera would be good, can buy one for a few hundred, camchain driven engines, bulletproof and will give you 45mpg. Or a Toyota Corolla or something, taxi firms use these for a reason.

Cheers.

Ended up getting a Rover 25 1.4L! Shocked

It was through a mate, and has just had the head gasket up rated, new cam belt and water pump. I know these cars are not known for being very reliable, but it's usually the head gasket that goes and that has just been replaced. Besides it was £900, with 70K.

Very true, but once I have put some Lexus lights, a massive exhaust, tinted windows, go faster stickers, body kit, and alloys on it will look much better............. Laughing

Seriously though it’s just to get me from A to B for at least 6 months, so I’m not to bothered about the cool factor. I have this for posing Twisted Evil

All I know about Galants are that I had one in Gran Turismo on PS1.

Galant VR4, 2.5 V6 Turbo, got ~768BHP out of it. Laughing
