I've just ordered a full set of braided lines for my cbr 600 as the brakes seem quite gutless. Has anyone seen any "Noticeable" Performance increase from using them? And do Brands make a difference or is it all roughly the same construction.

Hi

Roughly the same, and probably not much difference from rubber hoses with decent fluid.

Just don't touch any with alloy fittings.

All the best

Keith

Alloy construction meaning the material used for the mesh?
I think there stainless but im not sure.

Its a cbr 600 1991 so the rubber hoses are quite old and you can feel them expand when applying the brake.

Hi

No, the braiding is pretty much always stainless (think there are some kevlar lines), but some have alloy fittings at the end. These have a short life expectancy and can easily fail with little warning.

All the best

They just last for a very very very long time as the stainless steel braiding prevents the rubber tubing expanding and so the brakes never lose that responsive touch! They do look good though.

You wont be able to feel rubber lines expanding. You'll just have badley bled brakes, or callipers needing a clean up.

It's difficult to say weather they make a difference, the fact you have to change the fluid when changing them probably makes a much more significant difference. Mind my CB brakes sharpened up considerably after having a braided line fitted. Could be due to the new fluid though.

Braided lines on a CG? lol.

Well it was only £50 for the full set of goodridge lines. I can always send them back but tbh i think they will look quite good and might be worth the keep.

I am sure you can feel the line expand when braking. The rear lines no but the front ones do have a noticeable bulge when applying the front brakes with some force. Maybe its just me..

Hi

At that age they are probably getting to be past it. The rubber hoses do have a cloth braiding inside anyway.

Ages ago I measured how much a load of hoses expanded on our bikes when you pulled the brakes hard. OK, this is outside diameter, but the ones that expanded the most were the standard fit braided lines on Charlottes Triumph Thunderbird.

Just avoid the braided hoses with alloy fittings (normally pink or blue fittings).

All the best

Keith
