So i have been sitting here for the last couple of days, i still have my usual errands to run which usually take an hour or so on the bike but now take half the day on public transport,

Oh for those of you who dont know im disqualified for another 3 weeks ish.

So i understand if i were to take the bike out thats no insurance, no licence.. nothing basically arrested possible jail time and a proper ban for a couple of years.

But then on the other hand im thinking about how easy it would be to just take off my plate completely and go out with in intention of not stopping for anyone or anything, i know the roads to and from my destinations like the back of my hand, i have two or three alternatives i could take in an emergency, full tank of fuel, a rear brake that does not illuminate the brake light Wink... Oh and the overwhelming desire to not get caught...

Before you reply with outrage i am posting here because i decided the risk/reward ratio is not worth it, even though i am pretty sure i would get away with it today (even if i came across traff pol) the off chance that i stacked it running or they somehow traced it back to me means ill just wait out my 3 weeks like a good boy.

So what im either looking for here is a nice big pat on the back for not braking the law, or heroic luke-esque stories of high-speed escape from the rozzers just so i can imagine what might have been.

And a child doesn't look and runs in to the road.

(Even though it could be totally the child's fault).

The headline would read, Banned driver kills child.

Not worth it.

I'm always amazed by the number of people in the local paper who have been up in court for driving whilst disqualified/no insurance etc.

It's definitely not worth the risk.

Thats what im thinking, its all those little improbables which probably wont happen, but those few times they do you live to regret for the rest of your life.

Hi

Reading between the lines of some of the "police camera action" type shows, it seems like the police sometimes find it worthwhile watching the houses of those recently banned waiting for them to drive / ride off.

All the best

It's only 3 weeks, and I know its aggro and so on but imagine how much worse it would be if it was a year? I know the odds could be in your favour and you could get away with it, but you gotta wander what would happen if you don't get away with it.

I'm not sure why you got banned, but hopefully you can learn from it and when you get back on the road you'll be better for it.

Besides I think its supposed to rain the rest of the week Wink.

Thinking I bet these few weeks feel like aaaaages.

I would most certainly not condone getting up ridiculously early on a sunny Sunday morning and going for some mental hoonage down your favourite twisties with plate 'doctored' with black 'leccy tape. Oh no siree. Tut Tut

I bet Ms Sarf had wished she had driven in accordance with her licence, with insurance, stopped at the scene of the accident and not caused death by dangerous driving.

I bet the parents of the 11 yr old boy wish she had even more.

Keep resisting the temptation Karma

The kid's still dead. "Driver kills child" is just as bad a headline.

The repercussions for the OP would be worse than if he weren't disqualified sure, but I'd wager they'd be nothing compared to how you'd feel for the rest of your life, either way.

Whip out your skateboard and BMX and just go out in central london! That's what I'd be doing. Sometimes when you realise that the sun is out, i feel that there's nothing better to do than to just cotch in one of the parks. St James' is a good shout... and so is Primrose hill.. No need for the bike.

For the next 3 weeks, I'd say just hang about central london and admire the sun and the girls. Find something else better to do; look back to your youth and relive it. Summer sun and nostalgia give me the best buzzes when I'm not on thee bike.

That said, when the 3 weeks are over, you'd have some nice chicken strips to get rid of on your Roadsmarts Wink Thumbs Up

But yeah Karma for not going out whilst banned... plenty of other good thigns to make out of the time.

Strip the bike down clean, service and rebuild it...

Should take you a good 2 weeks at least to do right. Thumbs Up

That way you won't be tempted to ride it.

Taking off you plate is proberly the worst thing you could do.... It would attract attention to you.

Every time you park the bike, there is a chance that some parking warden will spot it and radio it in.....

You thinking well i won't stop, but that chopper in the sky does not need you too, it will simply wait for you to head home.

Tell me about it mate.

I'm without wheels at the moment, and everything takes a fucking age.

You only get to see how shit public transport is in the country when you've no choice but to use it.

For every 1hr journal on a train, there's seems to be 5hrs of loafing about waiting for the train home.

A journal that would have taken me 1hr each way on the bike this Saturday is going to have me up at 6am and probably not home until 5 that evening. That's half the day gone....

Fucking 'ell,public transport is tedious...

I would have to walk over 2 miles before I even got to a bus stop, let alone one that had a bus that actually stopped at it more than twice a day!! Rolling Eyes

TheDonUK personally for the sake of three weeks I'd play safe. If it was a longer time I'd probably understand the frustration more, but three weeks is nothing in the big scheme of things. iooi's advice to service the bike and remove temptation seems to be a win-win to me. No chance of going out on it on a whim and it's all lovely a ready for when your licence is back. Thumbs Up

Use it as an excuse to get pished for the next few weeks Thumbs Up
When I take public transport to uni I end up having a few beers with lunch. Not so good if you're working, but you can still stay in town, miss the rush hour bus ride home and get drunk with some pals. Karma

Im thinking removing the plate would be pretty stupid as you would instantly be attracting attention to the police. With a plate on you could be followed for miles by a copper and unless he had any reason to check your plate out then you would have less chance of attracting attention. Why does having no brake light make any difference?
Personally i think people who drive/ride intentionally without valid licence/ insurance etc are generally cocks or criminals or both. One of the many reasons why insurance premiums are high.
Truth is theres no doubt hundreds of thousands of people are using the roads on regular basis illegally.
Lots who are banned choose to ride/drive during the ban, but a lot have never even had a licence to begin with!
Lets be honest though, chances are you would get away with it - get caught tho and your looking at jail, very lengthy ban, massive premiums when you can ride again, vehicle seized/ scrapped (possibly). Not really worth it is it?
Thumbs Up

Absolutely, still not nice to see flowers etc outside of my school/sixth form. Sad

Not worth the risk man, however, odds are you could have got away with it but the 1% chance is enough to sow the seed of doubt.

It took me 4 and a half hours on public transport what takes 30 mins each way... 4 and a half hours ffs.

To address some points, i am actively on the lookout for a bicycle, need to get fit anyway.

I have a mahosiive bag of weed that should tide me over.

iooi/swift: the reason i considered taking off the plate was because no doubt my reg will now be flagged as disqualified on all the ANPR systems, so i pass a car or a van and as you say they would be waiting at home, without a plate all they know is its a red bike and the rider had black leathers on, i would be home before the chopper was scrambled, im not talking about going into town shopping on the bike with no plate and leaving it parked up, but a calculated run to certain destinations and then back again,
Oh the brake light, in a chase if you needed to give a car the slip you can slow down and turn off without alerting anyone behind you are braking, use your imagination as to how that might be usefull..

Im not gonna ride it though, it was running pretty sweet before i got banned, just had it serviced/new tyres/wheel bearings/brakes cleaned and new pads. What i will do is give it a good clean when the sun comes out and maybe remove the chain and clean it with paraffin and a toothbrush or something.

Enjoy your bikes dudes, its almost painfull hearing people go through the gears in the distance now...

Sure you'll find a cheap enough bike there. It doesn't have to be good (if it is you just worry about it getting nicked).
