Hello!
I have a Suzuki RG125 Gamma which i brought today from my best mate.
its a 1987 one fully faired in ducati red, ill get a pic. but it looks better minus the front fairings.
im very pleased with it it goes like shit off a shovel, and does about 90mph but the reason why it keeps up with my cousins VFR400 is this .
the bike has a airbox under the seat, there is a round piece on the top which unscrews and pulls out and it has a cone shaped piece of foam on it, well with this in the bike wont run full stop or tickover.
So im having to use the bike without the foam in , so basically its just a empty box with no top on or foam in it, the bike sounds absoltely amazing and turns heads, and gives me a headache something rotten anyway what i want to know is whats up with it?
I gather its running rich, and hence removing the foam piece of the filter is allowing more air into the carb and its levelling out the mixture so it runs right.
So i need to adjust the settings on the carb right? how? which screw? can anyone provide me with diagrams or anything?
i know its a ' mikuni ' carb ?
Ive done mechanical work loads before.
also out of the 4 indicators, only the rear one seems to work on the left hand side? they are all plugged in? ill have a look tommorow because im going to strip it down and paint the frame and stuff, its a little beauty, just rattly, id like to rebuild the engine and that.
also can i put wider tyres on it?
cheers |

Okay mate, maybe your right, i just thought id have a play first, it can't run any worse than it is now! even though it still flys!
Misfires at 4000 revs in 2nd gear, does'nt want to rev at all in 6th at abouit 85mph.
Gonna take off fairings today, streetfighter style
Ill go and see how much its gonna cost for me to have it set up, bike dealers are crap round here |

using castrol TTS i get it free,
28,015 on the clock
its only a bugger to start cause i left the fuel tap on and flooded the carb
i did 85mph last night, so thats a real 80 id say, but it only revs to 7000 revs then it starts misfiring
need 3 indicator bulbs, front pads and a front brake light switch then set up the carb. |

Hi
To add to what Robby says. The air filter stops rubbish getting into the engine. Small bits of dust will get in without a filter and these will cause rapid wear on the engine.
Check that the air filter is actually the right one, and not something that someone has just made up to fit in the space. Give it a wash (water and washing up liquid is fine), dry it thoroughly and lightly oil it.
Check the carb over thoroughly. Strip it down and clean it out, checking all the jets are clear and are as they should be (especially the position of the clip on the needle jet).
Top speed of one of those is just under 90 in reality, probably a bit over 90 indicated.
The rims on the RG are very narrow. You could not usefully fit wider tyres.
All the best

Thanks keith
Going to strip the carb off it today and do a clean and investigate job on it.
I know the carb is a 'Mikuni' one, but what i would like to know is which notch on the needle is the factory setting, what size is the standard jet size? Does it have a air mixture screw? If so which way do i turn it to weaken/richen the mixture?
Theres some stupid rattling coming from the clutch side of it, only does it on idle sounds like someone shaking a can of marbles
Thanks for the help, think i may get rid of it, seems too much work, but its bloody fast and i love it , it just crap on oil and petrol
cheers |
