Hi, newbie here! im yet to get my motorbike license (planning on doing direct access in a few weeks) and im looking at buying a dual sport bike.

Originally i was looking at eh suzuki DRZ400s and CCM 404 but iv heard these bike are unsuitable for motorways which i will occasionally be driving on. I've started looking at bigger bikes such as the CCM 604 and CCM 644 (not sure of the main differences??) The 644 looks like its a good bike for medium distance travel and it can still handle well off road. As this will be my first bike (well first bike il be riding on the road) i dont want something thats high maintenance and has small service intervals, i want something that i will be able to take care of myself and be reliable.

Anyone got any opinions on these bikes? To be honest im leaning towards the CCM 644 at the moment as i can get a fairly decent one within my budget (£2200).

Cheers guys!

ps. whats the difference between a dual sport and a supermoto?

hello mate,

try this place if you're looking for ccm

www.ccmriders.co.uk

I ve been looking at the 404 or the DRZ..... from what ive found out the 404 is the lighter, quicker bike.
both should be okay for an occasional motorway run but if you're doing it every day then probably not

The CCM404 build quality isn't quite as good as the DRZ, but pretty much everything else is better. Biggest problem I had with mine was the big-end bearing going, which is a Suzuki part.

The 644 uses a Suzuki DR650 engine, while the 604 uses a more powerful but less reliable rotax engine.

The 644 can be taken off-road, but then I took my zx9 down a green lane a few weeks ago Razz. On the scales they are pretty porky for a true dual-sport, though probably still lighter than a KLR.
The 644 only makes slightly more power than the 404, but I'm lead to believe it does handle distance a bit better.

Were it me, I'd be looking for a TE610 or a KTM LC4 (640) enduro.
If you could stretch your budget a little, might also be able to find a BMW G650 X-Challenge (which were going for £4k pre-reg last year!)

and the DRZ 400 or the CCM 404 are capable of motorways..

Its not very comfy... but i've covered 300miles in a day on the drz (mostly on motorways) and found... apart from the wind over 60.. it was bare'able!

I also did few trips of 100-200 miles on the DRZ with a pillon down the motorway which was bit of a laugh...
My mate and i did a tour of Ireland (he was on drz)... He found it pretty damm good for touring.. we must have covered close to 800-900 miles in a week with somedays of no riding)

they not exactly a tourer, but they a workhorse and will take it with ease!

Thumbs Up

I've done 200 miles in a single 'fun' ride on the CCM; it's that you've either got to stick to 70 or be constantly running the bike at very high revs that I don't like the DRZ engine for motorway use.
You can up-gear it a bit, but then first starts to become pretty high for off-road.
