A lot of the route between bilbao/santander and zafra has been upgraded to 2/3 lane motorway as far south as merida & zafra.
however the route from zafra to huelva is good, (ex101 & N435) as it goes over the plataux, then onto some twisty roads.
Theres a cafe half way down the N435 to stop off and have lunch. But be careful of blitzing down that route on a weekend as the local power rangers ride it, and the cops are out on force with speed guns.
But as you head to Huelva on the N435, when you get to Trigueros turn right on the Hv 3105 towards Gibraleon & then the N431 and pick up the A49/A22 motorway to bypass huelva and run into faro.
I usually exit the A22 at junction 14 and take the N2 down into faro, following the airport signs so far before turning off into town
Avoid the hotel "zafra" at Zafra next to the A66 road as we stayed there last year and the hosts lifted my mate wallet, also the club next door is the local whore house, & the partying usually starts around 2-3am
On the way down to Faro I usually book ahead and get cheap deals at F1 or Ibis hotels, that way I can park the bike in secure parking, be showered and eating out within 30 mins, without the fuss of pitching a tent, but you will pay slightly more than you would camping fees. But with camping "regio" at salamanca charging around 12 euros per night, the cost of the ibis at salamanca is 2 or 3 times that

its a case of 6 or two 3`s
you ain`t gonna save money either way. it just depends on wether you want to chill out on the ferry, or spend 2-3 days riding back thru france, taking into consideration the cost of fuel used going thru france
The bilbao - portsmouth ferry is 30hrs, and the new santander - portsmouth/plymouth ferry is around 20hrs.
1 thing I would take into consideration, is the ferry departure time, as you may need accomodation locally the night before if its an AM sailing ____________________ I accept no responsibility for swearing, drinking, motorcycle riding or your pregnant teenage daughter. |
