 |
|
Here is my new Yammy WR250F, although I say new I have owned it for a couple of months. This is an upgrade from my DRZ 400 – you wouldn’t think going from a 400 to a 250 is an upgrade but in the world of offroading the DRZ to a WR is a definite upgrade!
Its so much lighter and more manoeuvrable then the DRZ, and goes where u want it too. The power is smooth down the bottom end – ideal for the tricky section, and screams up to about 13k revs at the top end with peak power at about 10k – it revs like a 2 smoker ! I can’t fault the bike offroad, and it has given me so much more confidence.
Specs/mods when purchased :
Bikes covered only 3350km’s
Recent fitted iris x ring chain and renthal sprockets
Recent brake pads and wheel bearings
Recent Red bull graphics – which are used by the Yamaha factory racing team in MX1 (used by the championship leader A.Cairlo and team mate Leok – definite go faster stickers!)
Renthal twin wall bars with bar risers – ideal for me because I am quite tall.
Plastic frame guards – look quite shite but they do the trick
Acerbis brushguards – getting quite worn but again they do the trick
Mods I have done to it :
Dep exhaust silencer fitted with the Dep/JD jetting kit
Ignition switch – as I use the bike for work
Swingarm graphics to replace the std. YAMAHA sticker
KYB fork protector stickers
Acerbis spider front disc brake protector
Anyway here she is :

https://img10.imageshack.us/img10/7333/dsc0096801.jpg
The number plate registration starts with WR – how awesome is that!
https://img294.imageshack.us/img294/4998/dsc00969.jpg
https://img10.imageshack.us/img10/5038/dsc00970pip.jpg
https://img381.imageshack.us/img381/4633/dsc00939.jpg
New acerbis front disc cover – looks better then I thought it would.
https://img15.imageshack.us/img15/9682/dsc00940slk.jpg
Dep per4mance – enough said
Future mods:
Aluminium frame guards
Need a decent sump guard/bash plate
The side panels are a bit worn so ill either replace them or fit a background number plate
Not to keen on the DTR style rear fender with the back light on the fender and the pretty ugly number plate holder – so ideally I want a YZ fender, but including graphics for it and a rear led brake light and the plastic itself, it would be about a £50 - 60 job.
The front rim has 2 kinks in it, and the rear has one, so ideally a new set should be purchased but that’s a bit of money too. It did pass its recent MOT though, so they are not that bad.

nice mate.. I like the red bull decals..
my mate has the same bike.. do the yeis conversion (actually its called something else but I cant remember what its called.. was some kind of device to lower emissions or something).. can get a kit online for more power then fit a YZ carb and then its pretty much a YZ
also he swapped the stock front pipe to a fmf powerbomb and the rear pipe to a powercore and that gave a little more power.. Ive ridden it and a drz 'e' and the wr was in a different league.. the drz just felt slow and lumpy.. the wr was like a dt on steroids.. felt like a stroker!!

also was that the plate issued to the bike?.. WR lol.. nice..
edit Its actually called AIS not YEIS.. I was close...

Cheers mate. Yea the bike was issued with the WR number plate.
As for the YZ conversions, not for me at the moment, i use the bike also to get to work, so i need to keep the reliability..which being yamaha is awsome !
Im happy with changing oil/filter every 900-1000km's and its very economic on fuel, dispite it revs so high, any YZ mods is asking for trouble, i would love a play around with a road legal WR to get it tweaked or possibly get hold of a YZ one day for fun, but untill that day im happy as this bike stands.
And your spot on with your DRZ to WR comparison
Have you ever thought of getting a 4-popper ? Or do you love scraming 2 stokes ? Must say i did have a DTR and a DTR-E and they are great bikes, yamaha truely are great ____________________ Rides: '05 Yammy WR290-F |
