I'm going through France, Spain & Portugal, and as far as I can tell, the only safety gear I need is one of those folding triangles, plus a few spare bulbs to be on the safe side.

The Halfords triangle is a serious looking bit of kit, but is around 15 quid.

Then I looked on ebay, and there are some flimsy looking ones on there for a few quid, and they look like they pack down much smaller.

But I wonder if the triangle has to meet some sort of standard to be 'legal'???

I'd hate to buy a cheap one & then get fined because its not legal.

I don't think they expect you to have one on bikes, I've never known anyone take one. You are supposed to have a bulb kit, 1st aid kit and hi viz vest in some of the euro countries though.

I've never taken one. If you really want one on the cheap go down to your local scrapyard and have a look in the boots of the BMWs or Mercedes, they will certainly be legal.

I'd just take a hi-viz and a set of bulbs though.
