I hear that the only place that provides any kind of value for money in terms of holidaying at the moment is Egypt, Sharm El Sheikh.

Although Mexico might be cheap at the moment.

To be honest if you want hot and out of europe and once in a lifetime then it has to be caribbean, but that might still be out of your price range.

Barbados and Antigua are supposed to be nice.

Always a difficult one as holiday choices, likes and dislikes are all pretty personal, so my observations in an attempt to help!

Caribbean - I did the all inclusive Virgin holiday to Barbados with friends for their wedding. Expensive for what it was, but no money concerns as all paid for and perfect for kids. I found it to be a little too Butlins abroad, but understand the appeal to others. I've been told that Jamaica was disappointing and that Antigua and St Lucia are the best all round. I went to Dominican Republic many years ago just as it was developing and went windsurfing in Cabarete - really enjoyed it but the accommodation was sketchy back then and seriously basic even for 4*'d stuff. Supposed to be good value now though and the Caribbean coast is warmer for watersports!

Egypt - I really loved it for diving and snorkeling in the Red Sea but do bear in mind it gets seriously hot in the summer (40+) and kids could just fry alive if not well covered. The ancient sights are outstanding but very busy in peak holiday times which combined with the heat could be a bit of a nightmare. Better for an early or late season holiday imo.

I think from what's been said, I'd think about Mexico at the moment as there some pretty good deals about! May raise a few eyebrows taking children and you'd never hear the end of it if someone did get sick, but you can get that anywhere tbh.

Ask the kids. They will say Disney in Orlando.

I am not endorsing such American imperialist trash BTW but kids go mad for a paedo in mouse ears.

Dominican Rebulic is alright would probably do for the kids being in some all-inclusive resort as they tend to have a lot to entertain them, but personally I wouldn't bother.

Mexico is definately the way forward, get a crackin deal on at the moment due to the swine flu fiasco but since you are going to be going next May then the newspaper will be well and truly bored of that story by then and will be cooking up some new "OMGzzz! New epidemic/doomsday virus", thus leaving you and your family to enjoy themselves at a low low price.

Thailands fantastic, but in my travels around there I'm not sure how much there is to do for kids really.

African safari? Though you'd probably struggle to stay in budget for that one.

I always found to have a good holiday, it had to please the kids.....

If they are not happy, then they will make it a nightmare for everyone else.

So while Florida does not have the most culture, it does have plenty of the other things you need.
If you hired a Vila for the 2 weeks, you could then please yourselves a lot more.

If you decide to go to Vietnam...do not go into the water...and do not eat fish whilst you are there.

I would suggest Wellington in New Zealand. Wellington has an incredible amount on offer for the family unit, and is very family friendly. It has all things water-based in the bay (it was a hive of activity every day I was there), it has a large interactive museum, it has a cable car, and botanical gardens, and plenty of places to sit and enjoy the scenery and eat together with it's bars and bistros.

Goa does not have that much in the way of anything for kids. It is very much a place to chill, eat and be merry.

It certainly does not offer anything water-sport based!!!

It is however super cheap, and you will not in any way shape or form spend £1,000 there, unless you go totally mad and buy oodles of hand-crafted furniture and rugs and bedding and things and take taxi's everywhere, and hand out HUGE tips, and go mad on eating in the top restaurants...
