Might as well have posted cash. It's gone. Police not likely be able to do anything.

I've got a camera for sale.

You could try the police. If its the Met then unless it something htat they are getting a lot of, then don't expect any action.

Where did you buy it via ???

It's gone, and it's people like your friend who are responsible for all the spam I keep getting.

Ah, western union.

For about 3 years I genuinely believed that Western Union was just a made up money transfer service the people used when they wrote joke 419s for forums.

Then I found out that Western Union is real, and the 419s were real too.

so yeah, paying for something through Western Union = fail. Use ebay and paypal, they generally work.

There's nothing inherently wrong with Western Union. So you can't say 'don't trust them'. It's designed for people who know each other to send money overseas. It's cheap and relatively effective for that purpose, plus you don't need internets or a bank account and it's difficult to trace, so it suits (ahem) migrant workers sending money home etc. The problem is that is has become the scam artists payment method of choice for the above reasons. You should never pay anyone you don't know via Western Union, and NEVER ever pay for goods. Pretty sure there are notices everywhere on Western Union to that effect, but I guess it's a bit late for that now.

Your friend has almost 0% chance of getting their money back. So take it as lesson learned and move on. Just hope it wasn't too much. Be more careful next time.
