 |
|
Taking the Gixer clan for a weeks holiday up in Cumbria next week, nothing makes me happier than having my rod in my hands (fnaar fnaar), so i'm after a bit of help on some good spots to fish.
Mostly i like to lure fish for Pike & Perch, but i'd quite like to try a bit of sea fishing too (with lures, don't have the kit for beachcasting etc).
We're staying on the west coast, fairly near to St.Bees.
Any recommendations? ____________________ Space Monkey #7

Angling
Boat angling
Motor-powered sea anglers will have the same problems as sailing boats, but there is some sea-angling activity and there is at least one village-based fisherman who regularly launches using a tractor.
Beach angling
St Bees is a popular sea angling venue for beach and rock fishermen. Unfortunately the rag and lug worms are largely depleted. The rocks at the foot of the South Head (Tomlin) are a popular place, but tackle can easily be lost due to the rocky bottom, and lifters are generally used.
Off these rocks are the boilers of the wrecked SS Izaro, a haven for conger eels.
Some set-lines are used in summer on the beaches.
No mention of freshwater on the site I lifted that from ____________________ Fallen Angel "Nae sniffing my seat now!!!!! "

Slightly OT, when does the coarse season start again, is it 15th June? I read that rod licences run from 1st April to 31st March - is there even a closed season anymore? Been quite a few years since I bought a licence. ____________________ Chances are quite high you are not in my Monkeysphere, and I don't care about you. Don't take it personally.

Coarse close season is 15th March to 15th June.
Closed season for coarse only covers rivers, streams and some drains - most lakes & canals don't have a closed season and can therefore be fished all year round.
Click here for more details from the EA.
Trout, sea trout and salmon have different seasons and rules. ____________________ Space Monkey #7
