Howdy all,

After scouring the interweb for a luggage set for my bike (tank bag, tail pack and panniers), I was going to buy a buffalo set from fleabay for £95ish... That was until I checked what infinity were offering. It seems that they are selling an RDM luggage set (their own brand to the best of my knowledge) for £65, reduced from £100. It looks like a clearance deal, but none the less, it does seem like a decent set for the price if, like me, you're looking for a cheap and functional set.

So tomorrow I shall be investing 65 of my hard earned pounds in said luggage set, ready for my 500mile round trip to Dublin. I shall let you nice BCF folks know what the quality is like... And how they perform once I get back from Dublin City (on or around the 15th June)

Well folks, I bought myself a set of RDM luggage and have (sort of) attatched it to my bike.

I have to say that for the price, I'm impressed. I've only fastened the bags on using the velcro and bungees, just to see what it all looks like, but there are buckles for extra fastening on the panniers. It all seems very secure, the magnets on the tank bag are pretty good and are in a sort of rubbery coating, so they wont damage the paint on the tank. All the bags are a reasonable size... they're not huge, but they look like they will hold more than enough gear for a weekend away!

Each bag comes with a rain cover and shoulder strap... and the tail pack comes with 4 extra bungees. Whilst it all has that "budget" feel to it (it was only 65quid!), it does feel like it's durable... Of course time will tell, and my trip to Ireland should be a good test! It also doesn't look too bad. I've stuck a couple pics on here to give you all an idea.

Well it's taken a while to get around to it, but here's the review of the bargain basement luggage from Infinity.

First of all, I was amazed at how much gear I could fit in! I had a fair bit of stuff to carry (3 pairs of jeans, 6 T-Shirts, trousers, 2 shirts, 6pairs of boxers, 6 pairs of socks, a pair of trainers, a pair of shoes, deodorants/aftershave etc, toolkit, various chargers, camera, camcorder, a coat, a bottle of Lagavulin whisky, and a few other odds and ends) and it all fitted in easily without even having to expand the panniers!

It fastened on very easily. Once I knew what went where with regards to straps etc, I could get luggage on and off within minutes and it didn't leave a mark on the bike.

It felt very secure... At one point I felt I was going to miss the ferry, so I picked up the pace. I wont mention if I hit 3 figure speeds for a sustained period of time or not Wink, but I will say that I felt very confident the luggage would stay on and it didn't have a noticeable effect on the bikes behaviour at higher speeds (worth noting that my bike is naked!)

I will point out that the rain covers are shit!!! They didn't seem to fit too well and one of the pannier covers fell apart when I tried to put it on... But this wasn't an issue. I hit loads of rain coming back over the pennines and no water got into my luggage. I had also used the large clear plastic bags the luggage came in to wrap my clothes up inside of the luggage as extra insurance against leaks (but as I already mentioned, it wasn't needed as there wasn't any leakage)

All in all I'm very impressed with the set. If like me you wont be touring very much and will only need basic luggage for the odd long weekend away, I would get this kit. At 65quid, it's worth it!

Cheers All

They do claim to be universal, so they should fit. The panniers and tail pack have the under/over seat straps. Only issue I could see would be the buckle straps that stop the panniers flapping around. You do get a shed load of bungees with the set so there should be a way around that.

That kit looks awesome, the ease of taking it all off really counts for something at the end of a day on the bike....

althooooouugh....

I dunno if those plastic clips are really up to the task of holding panniers onto the bike? Don't think I could trust them!

I went for the oxford humpback luggage. A bit fiddly to get on and off like most soft panniers tbh.

The ops tankbag doesnt appear to have a map window looking at the pics, i defo want a mapwindow.

Also if i go with my original choice i can then buy a tank bag that suits me, like a really good one that acts as a daysack.laptop bag to boot.

stil the ops recomendation is a great all in deal, and i like the refectors aswell.

The tankbag does have a map window, worked a treat with the AA maps (the ones with the speedcamera locations! Wink ). It does come with a shoulder strap, but it hangs more like a handbag than a backpack Embarassed . I think the principle of function over form applies to the RDM kit.

Just for interest, I've never fitted throwover panniers in any way other than by simply throwing them over the back seat. None of this taking the seat off carry on. Never had them go walkabout yet.

I am a huge fan of those roll-top ortleib dry sacks rather than a tail pack, just bungee them to the rear rack/seat. Anything I don't want to get wet goes in the dry sack for 100% confidence of having dry clothes and sleeping bag when I arrive.

Waterproof pannier covers never work. In my experience, if they aren't shredded within 100 miles, they collect water in the bottom and make your stuff wetter than they would have been without the covers. A black bin liner inside the pannier is the way to go.

Oh and don't go for the cheap binliners, get the more expensive ones...I've had mine for years and years, and they are still good to go. Thumbs Up

My prefered tank bag is Bags connection. these are the ones that fix to a locking ring bolted to the fuel cap. the added bonus is that BC also do an ortleib style inner bag for their tankbags

Also uses the pillion seat, so no good for 2 up touring. But if you're not going 2 up, then I guess it wouldn't matter. Smile
