Anyone got any tools they can recommend to make it run faster. It's clogged to hell and short of reformatting it I don't think there's much that can be done, but wondered if anyone had any registry clean up tools that work well.
It takes an age to boot and is generally slow as hell.
The CD drive is toast so I can't really do a reformat, and I don't have an XP disk anyway.
O, and it needs to be free.
Thanks

Great stuff.
I haven't tried anything yet, I just wanted ones that I knew would work well.
If I run enough through it, I may be able to get it to a usable speed.

Try looking at Portable Freeware for stuff.
I know they have a link to CCLeaner there, Secure Deletion section.
You might find some other goodies.

Reasonably, I'm doing a Computer Science degree, but it doesn't really transfer to the real world.
Thanks, I'll have a poke about. ____________________ My Flickr |

Another +1 for CCleaner, its a great little program.
I would also recommend not using the windows defrag tool in favour of Auslogics Disk Defrag While would question the % speed increase they claim on the site it certainly does a much better job of disk defragmentation than the windows tool.
I would also recommend you avoid these speed up tools that claim to save you memory on the machine by freeing up ram. Generally I find they infact slow down the machine.
I cant remember if CCleaner does this or not but you might also want to clean out your windows prefetch folder (think its c:\windows\prefetch) Dont delete the actual folder, just the files inside it. ____________________ I am, therefor I are! |
