UK scared of British weather?

My 7 year old was supposed to be taking part in a mini rugby tournament with school this afternoon. She's been practising for weeks (nowt to do with me, she's a girly girl but came home and told me she'd chosen to do rugby!) and the school have just now cancelled it.

Because of a wet field.

Yes, Rugby.



How the hell can a bit of drizzle stop rugby?! If the rivers were bursting their banks, maybe, but it's only been drizzling here!

Her Dad had left work early so he and her sister could watch and support, now it's bloody cancelled.

And my silly mother the other day. She waited like ages just to run to her car when the rain had died.

Rugby is better in the wet btw !
Get some water proofs if you have a bike, that's just comon sense.
I dont mind the rain, i never get wet. Doesn't stop me from doing anything, shouldnt stop anybody else either.

Are you sure it wasn't cancelled due to the pitch being required at the weekend or something? May be a more important fixture coming up

Yesterday it was pee'ing it down here in Sheffield (and today in fact) and out of the normal 10-12 bikes parked at my work there were only 2 - 1 being mine!

Today the weather was better this morning though rain still forecast and 4 bikes have turned up. When it's beautiful and sunny they always all turn out, bloody wusses!!

I can't understand why, I love the feeling of being in control of 2 thin wheels with a lot of power behind them on NSL roads while the clouds are throwing their all at me! Plus my helmet and waterproof gear makes me feel like I'm in a submarine!

Know just what you mean...

There is now a warning on teletext about the so called hot weather we are going to be seeing this summer and how the old should be getting some buddy's to help to look after them if its too hot.....

They are giving some daft advice, like find the coolest room in the house etc.... Like the old don't already know that one....
But no useful advice like keep the curtains shut to help stop the rooms heating up....

My daughter has had many a school sports day cancelled, due too....

Its always been in the British mentality to whine and complain about the weather but its does seem that its starting to effect peoples habits more and more these days. We were up at squires last Wednesday night when it started to rain, ten minutes later the car park was almost empty

My sons football team does tend to play in any weather though. One of the most memorable matches had pretty much a lake sized puddle at one corner of the pitch.

In my 32 years on this paltry planet, i can remember perhaps 6 maybe 7 what you would call blistering summers, the rest have just seemed to be a blanket of greyness but with a little warmth.

And also how come a majority of british people complain when its lashing rain and cold, then as soon as it dries up and gets warm, they complain that it's to hot!! And they always use the old chestnut "i like it warm but not this warm."

When I was at scholl I can't remember any sport being cancelled due to weather. Played cricket in the rain , we used to have a pitch called the "Ditch pitch" because it was like the bottom of a muddy ditch. Still played on it all year round, even snow, the old casey football hitting you in the knackers or pinging you on your bare legs. Those were the days.

I'm not scared of the weather - I held a BBQ at a local woods with the mini club at the weekend - it pissed down nearly the whole time we where there, but a couple of gazebos and some good company made it a very enjoyable day out

I played Rugby at my school for a bit in the height of summer in Dubai when I was about 16. The height of summer being 48 degree celsius heat and silly amounts of humidity. They would have had every right to cancel it then due to the possibility of students collapsing due to heat exhaustion or dehydration. Cancelling it when there's a beat of drizzle and a cool 14 degrees celsius is just poofy. Man up I would say to your daughter's school

Well I hope you have written to the school and lobbied all the other parents to do the same. It is possible someone thought they were doing the right thing in protecting your little darlings. Make it clear that everyone is happy to stand out in the rain to help out then I am sure public opinion will win the day.

I remember my school rugby days.

One match the pitch was such a mud bath you could barely stand up without sliding everywhere, even with full on rugby boots on.

As I thought because if you had tried I suspect that a lot of the parents wouldn't want their little darlings standing out in the rain and mud.
Over protectiveness of kids starts in the home
I'm not saying you are over protective but a lot of parents are.
