Was just going to top up my 2 stroke as well, but was slightly confused to see the stuff I got was red, thing is the two stroke thats in there at the moment is yellow err...... have I got the wrong stuff or has somebody put the wrong one in my bike ?

didnt want to just add it in case I need to drop whats in there already, there isn't a heck of a lot in but my home made dip stick still shows a good 2 inches worth.

The 2-stroke oil I have is red.

I'm not too hot on knowledge, but just thought you'd be interested to know.

It is advisable to keep to the same oil for the bike, but if you do not know what oil is in there now, it is unavoidable. Hope this helps a little. I'm sure someone else will know Wink

Its actually not a silly question! Smile

When I had my NS125 I just bought any bottle of 2 stroke oil that said fully synthetic on the side. In the time I had it I had red, yellow and blue. A ped boi I knew at a place I used to work even bought strawberry flavored two stroke oil! Laughing

The oil in my bike is red, but the stuff I bought is blue. As per the original question, is it OK to mix them, or should I drain the old stuff out first?

It's OK to mix the different colours.

You will find references to not mixing 2T oils, but they are talking about older style oils like Castrol R and modern synthetic oils.

So yeah don't worry about the colours.

Cheers
Rob

Oil in mine is red. I've mixed different brands of semi-synthetic oil before, but probably wouldn't mix semi and fully synthetic oil.

I used to use Motul fully synth and it was red with a raspberry/strawberry smell. The after a few years the smell changed, perhaps someone decided to have a swig and they had to change it! Shocked

Hi

I have had golden coloured semi synthetics and red mineral oils. Likely the default colour is yellow but that they are dyed to suit so that you can identify where a fluid has leaked from.

All the best

Mine is red but I've used blue stuff. I don't bother with all that £6 a litre bottle nonsense the cheap stuff goes in mine.

in my experience:
TTS - gold
Rock oil - gold
Castrol super TT - red
Putoline oils - Blue

All of the above do a good job i've just them in my mx bike

The best oil to use is fully synethic so just run whats in it till its low and add your new stuff. It is best to run the same oil but you don't know how good or bad the oil is already in it, it could be some cheap ass chain saw oil Laughing . What bike is it, not that it really maters?

Yet another colour variation - my RS125 guzzles Motul 600, which is sort of racing green.

Made the oil tank look a bit messy after the red running-in oil!
