Just want to add insurance companies in general to the "licence to kill target" thread. Last year my insurance was £280, with Norwich Union. This year, same details, except (a) I'm a year older and (b) another 3 points have dropped off the radar. Silly me, expecting a drop - renewal quote is £325. Shopped around, got the same cover except with a free courtesy car (which my current policy doesn't have) for £217 with Admiral. Phoned NU and asked whether they'd match/beat it, and the most they'd do is drop to £295. I suppose they have to pay for those annoying adverts somehow.

No doubt Admiral will be strapping on the big rubber dong next year, too.

I just bought a new car and Admiral were the cheapest by a fair amount. Not too high an excess either, the difference between a £500 and a £150 excess was something like £20 a year, so I paid the extra to get the cheaper excess.

I concur with the madness.

My multibike renewal was £30 quid more than I paid for it last year, despite no claims, year older, and ridden about 500 miles in total. Oh, and that tiny little recession thing that supposedly makes everything cheaper.

Put a quote thing into tesco compare, and it comes back 40 quid cheaper than last years premium, same broker, same underwriter.

Makes complete sense as always Rolling Eyes

Yep, send them to the wall. Shifty, underhanded gits. My car insurance is due in August, I had a look on the Autotrader comparison and Admiral were cheapest for me, too.

I've told my story before about Carol Nash, renewal for tpft was a few quid more (£147), went to e-bike and got a quote for FC £108, which Carol Nash then matched. Twats.

I've mentioned this before, but I'm still pissed off about. Prime display of Bell insurance being cunts.

My renewal came through at around £600. Steep, thought I, seeing as I had paid £500 the previous year. I'll run a new quote through their system to see what I get.
But no, once you put in your details it recognises you as a customer, and goes into your customer area and shows you the renewal price.
Fishy, though I.
So I ran through a quote with my date of birth one day earlier and everything else the same. It came out at £400. Customers services, call I did. Their response? "I see sir, there must be a different risk profile for that age". "Really," spake I, "that one day is worth £200? I wish mummy had pushed a little earlier". "Yes sir" was the guttural response from the phone monkey, furiously masturbating over my obvious displeasure.
A cunning plan crossed my mind. I tried a quote with my date of birth one day later, and it also came in at £400. Once again I called customer services, who still could offer no explanation. When I explained that it was just possible that they fixed the system to penalise existing policyholders, they denied the accustion. When I suggested they were openly taking the piss and I wouldn't pay them the £600, they seemed shocked. When I finally was permitted to speak to the most high manager of the call centre, she relented and allowed me the lower price, "as a gesture of goodwill". Then proceeded to attempt to sell me legal cover and breakdown cover.

So. Bell. Cunts. Next year I'll be 25, and everyone will be offering me insurance to drive other cars as standard. Bye bye Bell, I hope I have reason to make a really juicy claim against you one day.

Just renewed the bike insurance. Renewal amount? £137.29. Best quote? £75.39. Bastidz.

I don't disagree and it's the right answer, really there's very rare occurrence when you're getting the absolute best deal out there - but, not that I'd knock anyone for it, that's part of the reason why the motor market is such a state at the moment. Yes it makes a profit but in terms of capital employed to do so it's very borderline.

One of the leading aggregators MD came out a week or so ago and said don't blame us for rates not hardening, we don't set the rates. Whilst that's true, them, coupled with fickle customers who will move policies for the sake of very minor differentials, are exactly the reasons why the combined operating ratios look so sick. Unfortunately - COR's sick = cost cutting within business = poorer service for the end customer. Client feels they're getting shite service anyway so will always go with cheapest, downward spiral - viscious circle. Call it what you will.

The credit crunch will seriously affect motor insurance over the next year anyway - wait til the 1/10 renewals are through on the treaty reinsurance programmes and you'll see a very positive movement in rate. Most of the big name insurers have board level agreements not to place reinsurance with anyone that's not AA rated. There's not that many Reinsurance co's left now that are - narrow the playing field, increase the cost of Reinsurance.

Add to this spiralling repair costs and claims inflation of +8% at the moment, the introduction of periodic payment orders for accident victims and you're going to seriously get pushed in years to come.
