With a full licence I always thought it might be interesting to see if I got pulled over on the motorway on the old CG.
However, the thought of competing with the traffic was mildy sphincter twitching.
At least on the A-roads I'd have a chance of keeping up with traffic, plus apart from dual carriageways, could easily reach the legal limit.
Now I use motorways as just a quick way to get to the interesting bits. ____________________ ...and the whirlwind is in the thorn trees, it's hard for thee to kick against the pricks...

And you can bet your arse that the day you try there'll be a strong headwind. Combine that with the first decent hill and you'll be struggling to maintain 45mph.
Check out a route via A roads. It'll be more fun and potentially a lot safer. Getting flattened by a lorry that's travelling 15mph faster that you is going to put a real dent in your day.
And motorway cops see it all. They'll smell the guilt on you from 10 miles away. Don't risk it. ____________________ 2007 CBF1000 & 2016 CBF1000F - Commuter heaven | 1994 CBR600FR - Awaiting defibrillation |

I had to ride a short stretch of the M18 on my CBR125 once when the A614 was blocked, would've been an hours detour at least otherwise.
Was fucking terrifying, first cause I was convinced I'd get pulled (took L plates off) and second cause it's a motorway on a 125.
Cars pass you like you're stationary, really hard to overtake lorries so you're sat at 45mph getting covered in lorry crap with a reduced view of the road ahead.
I would strongly recommend not doing it. Ever. Unless you're a mental. ____________________ CBR125|||GSXR400|||CBR400|||CBR400|||CB250RS|||GSXR750|||CB250RS

I rode an H100 from Warrington to Carlisle. Not too hard, anyone that wants to pass can do so.
I also regularly used to take my CB125 up and down the M6.
You just need to find a wagon that's cruising at the same speed as you and sit in its slipstream for mega fuel economy. You land up sitting at a steady 65-70mph on half throttle.
All that said, I had a full licence at the time and quite a lot of experience of riding on motorways. Your observations need to be up to scratch or you'll come a cropper. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. Don't be too put off by all these CG-bashers!
Recently started to write a "Which 125" guide for my website - haven't finished it yet, but i thought you lot might like to read this bit i've copy and pasted from it:
"
I would advise you do not buy a 125 with the intention of giving it regular motorway use (and instead recommend you get a bigger bike), as they are widely regarded as not up to the job, generally due to a combination of:
* Weaker brakes.
* Little to no spare power on tap to get out of trouble or perform an overtake.
* Engines that are not designed to be run at motorway speeds for long periods of time.
* Lightweight nature meaning they get blown about, and feel unstable.
However, don't be too put off going on the motorway as I used to occasionally use a CG125 (slow but reliable 4-stroke 125, with weak drum brakes!) on the motorway, 170 miles each way, to my girlfriend's and back. I found that I could creep past lorries when the middle lane was clear (CG125 has approx. 65mph top-speed), and otherwise just sat in the crawler lane at about 60mph. I found it monotonous, and hard work, but it just about did the job!

We used to get pulled on a regular basis on the 125cc without L's, two up, so I imagine it'd be the same on the motorway.
Well it might be fun or a bit risque, are you prepared to potentially lose your licence before you've actually got started, for some daft thing like that?!?! Or pour unecessary points onto your licence which will inevitably cost you dear with insurance...?
I suspect not.
Bide your time, if you are serious about a future on bikes, then your time on the motorway will come.
Then you'll find out just how dull motorways are and will be wishing for the twisty more interesting roads!! ____________________ Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter won't mind - Dr. Seuss |
