Hello there Smile

Just Recently Bought a ZXR400 1991 17,000miles , Good condition, new respray ecec, bought some new things for it like iridium spark plugs , grips, pedals, levers ec ec, Just wondering because of its age is there anything i should be looking out for in the engine which i might need to replace , the engine sounds fine and runs sweet but just dont want anything 'unexpected' to happen ye no Sad

only use fully synthetic race oil, unless you want fecked rockers & twisted cams.

Apart from that mine was bulletproof.

Only thing I hear routinely bandied about when itcomes to ZXR400s is head gasket failiure. I think they tend to just go randomly rather than at a set time though.

Really? Always thought synth was best avoided for clutch slippage reasons?

Most bikes don't redline at something silly like 19,000 rmp Laughing

I'd personally go with what the manual says... but chances are the manual is in Japanese Neutral

DONT USE FULLY SYNTHETIC!

Use a half decent 10/40 semi synthetic.

Things to look out for.....

Oil coolers rot where they join the radiator and end up being cable tied on, head gaskets are weak on H1 to L4 models, headlight bulbs are an odd size, exhausts rot.

Apart from that just look for the usual signs of wear tear and abuse!
