How to run a car CD player from a car battery without a car

Hey guys, bit of a funny one here. Exams at uni are almost over and it's nearly time for one of the best events of the year, Pimp my Barrow. Yup, you got it, 20 quid to enter a team of 3-5 and you have to do up a wheel barrow and go on a pub crawl, some one has to remain in the wheel barrow at all times (5 second allowance for change overs). You see all sorts and its a really good laugh, so far it has raised 1700 quid for charity!

I'm looking to really pimp out my wheel barrow as I happen to have a decent car battery, car cd player and a set of 4 inch JVC speakers that I want to hook up in the barrow. Actual theme of the wheel barrow is undecided, might go for a pick up truck theme and dress as hill billys?

So how would I go about it? Are the wire colours coming out the back of the CD player universal? (i.e. red positive power, black negative and so on) The other thing that I thought may stop me is the amount of amps a car battery kicks out, does the power have to pass through a regulator first or would the CD player be fine without it?

Hi

Wiring is pretty universal. Forgotten the colours used but you can buy an adaptor to avoid chopping up the orignial wires (or buy a cheap adaptor for a common car).

Will be fine wired directly to the battery.

As long as the CD player can deal with the voltage level it should be fine, it will only draw the amount of current it needs to use. Also red should always be positive and black should always be negative. I'd imagine the CD player should work without the earth connected to anything although I could be wrong about that?

Fuse the positive as near to the battery as you can... especially if beer is going to be involved Wink

most after market radios i belive use red and yellow for ignition and constand power supply, though only the ignition one matters as the other is used just to keep a low power supply to the radio to keep its memory...

would it not be easier to use something such as a cd player from the house?
