Back in the day when I first started dealing with bosses, disney taught me to call them level guardians. Laughing (Castle of Illusion, for anyone who played that lots)

best and worst as in, most and least fun? or easiest and hardest?

There was a big snake in an attic in resident evil 1, and again in a back room, can't remember which was harder, but they were an utter swine to kill without dying thanks to the sluggish tank like controls.

Never completed half life 1, its too dated after number 2 to go back to now, I just wouldn't have the patience, maybe when they do the black mesa remake.

HL2's boss was defeated and I was watching the end sequence before I really knew what was going on. Was surprised how easy it was, too much happening at once, all a bit confusing really.

I found the thingy at the end of Nova Prospekt far more of a pain in the arse to get through without spunking all my good weapons and ammo.

Few weeks ago, there was a boss in Driver: Parallel lines where you had to randomly fight a guy in a tank in the back garden of his mansion, he can destroy your car with one shot and never misses if you are stationary, however it takes three hits to kill him, and you always miss.

I took over an hour of constant reloading to get passed him by fluke, in that he blew up my car at the same time as I got him, but the level complete reset script ran just in time and i got away with it.

It was such a good game to that point, then they just chuck in this stupid, man vs tank scenario that just ruined all believeability.

I can't believe that nobody has mentioned the boss at the end of the new SF yet...

A complete pain in the arse

First round is no problem with any character, but then the second he has all the best abilities from any of the characters, a flying kick that goes through fireballs and a special that draws you towards him while removing your block...

oh and he teleports both sides of you regardless of how close you are the wall....

Fair?...er...no, cheap?..hmmm

I like a boss that will change their attacks depending on how much health they have left, it stops the fight becoming boring and keeps you on your toes.

Currently my favourite is Grand Widow Faerlina in WOW

She will attack as normal, but occasionally enrages, with can only be dispelled by mind controlling one of her subordinates (who are attacking at the same time, so you have to hold them at bay rather than kill them) and then sacrificing them next to her. Makes the fight interesting!

Ninja Gaiden - plenty of bosses on there that almost saw the tv launched at high velocity through the window.

Also some game on gamebube called Eternal Darkness, the last boss on that wound me up so much I just looked on the net how to defeat it in the end before I gauged out my own eyeballs in frustration.

Worst: The second from last boss on Prince of Persia: the Two Thrones. Immediately after the charriot race.

Only one way to defeat them and totally prescriptive in what was an otherwise very flowing, freeform game.

I enjoyed the second Gilgamesh battle in FF12. Quite a challenge at the level I did it at (which was worth the effort to get the Gengi armour and weapons).

Emrald Weapon from FF7 took me so long to kill. The end box of GoW1 was pretty good to. The GoW2 end boss was fucking pointless.

In a word BULLSHIT.

Ive played through GOW as i got GOW and GOW2 with my Xbox.
Quite enjoyed the first one, albiet a bit samey, ive got to the final boss and im pissed off. What a cop out, this guy is suurounded by what i call, magic bats.
Magic bats kill you in less that a second if you put a foot wrong. Not too frustrating the first few times as with all big bosses you think you'll crack it.
My mate suggested i go co-op, its the only way as your computer friend runs towards the boss commiting suicide. You need a decent player to distract the boss while you use the heavy mounted weapon, try doing it on your own and you'll realise its futile.

You mean the 'magic bats' that are actual enemies in a large portion of the game, that attack you in darkness? Hardly a cop out.

Fine, the 'Cryl' or what ever they are called are really the thing that makes that Boss the cop out.
They've taken an age old recipe, big guy with a gun surrounded by boxes for cover and you, the hero, with a smaller gun. And ruined it.
The 'magic bats' kill you almost instantly which in my opinion isn't cricket, your character moves at snails pace, and can only sprint rather clumsily around the boxes anyway.
Your partner is worm food before you've even sussed out whats going on, and by the time you realise he could be of use whilst you man the mounted weapon he's trying to melee attack the boss.
I've put up with the simplicity of the game because the shootings satisfying, im gonna finish it but when i do, im not sure i want to go through GOW2. Not one of my top games im afraid. Thumbs Down
