What does F-2, F-3 etc mean on Hornet 600s?

looking to get my first big bike and im eyeing up some hornets on ebay at the moment, and whenever i saw the advert they all kept saying F-2 or F-3 ?
was just wondering if anyone knew what it means?

im assuming like most other bikes its a model/revision code. F probably being the model (shape) and 2 or 3 may stand for the year , 2 for 2002 3 for 2003?

the number may just stand for the revision then, similar to my zxr which come in various guises, G1-G2 J1-J2 etc. Best bet do some googling or wait for someone to reply who knows for sure
