Whilst out eariler today on the nearest hooligan route I couldnt help but notice 3.. count em 3 fools on sportsbikes sticking out there boot whilst under braking ala Valentino Rossi stylee (not riding together I might add),
Now its dubious as to wether this helps or not on the racetrack for pros at the top of their game, but to see people attempting to replicate it on the road is pretty embarrasing to a fellow sports bike rider, especially considering these boys were probably applyiing less than half the braking force that the motogp fellows do.
So, would you shake your head in dissaproval if you clocked someone coming towards you applying this method? or is someone going to step forward and admit theyve been doing this too?

Seriously though, they're just posers/wannabe's or just seeing what it feels like. I'm interested to see how it makes you/the bike feel but I doubt I'd try it to be honest.

Rossi has said it himself, he does it to balance the bike on entry, it's effectively spreading his weight out to make the bike more stable hence why he only does it occasionally and not always.

Only time I've stuck my leg out on the bike is when I've been in a straight line and I've developed cramp in one of them. If I saw someone doing a MotoGP stylee entry into a corner, as above, I'd probably wet myself

I do it fairly often on the TDM in the wet or shitty road surface. I have saved the front washing out a couple of times buy stamping down.

Theres nothing wrong with trying it IMO, it's nothing new, people have been emulating racers for years, Knee Down/race leathers/helmet etc. It's why road bikes have been getting closer to race bike for the last 20/30 years.
