Part exchange - my happy experience

I was going to aviod part exchanging my bike as i assumed i would get a shit deal.

I went to a bike shop today though and thought i'd ask what deal i would get if i part exchanged my '99 Bandit for an 02 sv650.

To my surprise the fella said they'd buy it off me for £1400, leaving me to only pay £900 for the SV.

I was expecting them to offer me a grand at the most for my bike. I actually paid £1400 for it 18 months ago, so i am considering accepting their offer.

Anyone else made a good deal part exchanging?

i think part exchange is generally quite a good way to sell a vehicle because the dealer wants to make a sale and in the scheme of things its worth them overpaying a bit for your bike to get that sale. Also they probably would have given that much up in a haggle anyway.

For £1800 asking price there's a 02 SV on biketrader, a few for £2k. Spend over £2k and you're getting the newer model.
So, based on that I'd say the real 'value' you're getting from the px is your £1k, or a little less - though there is the convenience.

I agree with G, the 02 SV is about £400 'overpriced' depending on its condition etc.

I'd be expecting a very low mileage mint SV for that money.

I agree with you G, but like you also say, it's the convenience that's swaying me to go ahead with it.

The SV only has 7500 miles on it and looks to be in pretty good condition. The shop would service and MOT it if i go ahead and buy it too.

Seeing as though i'd only be putting in £900 of my own money, that leaves me with a few hundred quid spare to buy a few things for it.

I like the sv650s, but would not swap it for a bandit.

If you want a sports bike then get a proper one, gixxer, cbr etc

If you must go for a sv650 get the uplift model they changed a few things, the back light will be 2 striped LEDs.
