ill never understand the following of drag racing.

it takes about 1 second for the part that requires any skill, the rest is just pinning a throttle.

Not true, timing the gear changes and getting them perfect is also part of it, and when the result relies on milliseconds of difference it does count, obviously the start is important but its not all there is to it.

Not really true, in most of the faster cars they have to fight it most of the way down the drag strip. No matter which way you try and do it 8000bhp isn't easy to get down to the ground.

Never suggested it was.

It's not more or less challenging, just different.

Top fuel dragster's will do the standing quarter about 4 seconds with a terminal speed of about 300mph.

Remember that be sucessfull at drag racing, you don't have to be the fastest, you have to be the most consistant.

They run different time classes, the person who completes the run closest to the time wins. If you go faster than that time you "break out" into a faster time class.

Turning up to every meeting and consistantly putting in a time of 12.505s in the 12.50 class could easily win you the championship.

I know drag racers who will cross the line on the brakes if they think they got too good a start and are risking breaking out.

Also, the timer only starts when you break the light beam, it isn't really a race other than against the clock. You could count to three after the lights go out, go and still win.

Tell that to Mr Hammond.......

As to the rest, many of the bikes or cars could easily lift the wheels in the 1st 3 gears... So there is skill required after the set off.

If you have ever done a run what you brung day....

You will know how far off the mark you are to get the best times.

Bit off topic now, but the planes would have been on thier way to the airshow they didnt arrive at southend untill about 2:30 or 3:00.

Saw a Eurofighter too, was by far the most awsome thing there, outclassed the red arrows by miles, infact the sheer noise the thing makes did that on its own!
