elbow grease and some wire wool.

Or jet wash it with a powerful jetwash and be carefull where you spray.

Muck off and a paint brush. spray on agitate it with the brush and hose off.

You can jet wash it but if you blow the grease out you bearings or chain they can become a pain in the arse.

Carb and Choke cleaner at £1 for a 500ml aerosol and an old toothbrush works for me, it'll remove everything except corrosion (and paint).

I thought you meant internally...

Was gonna say the better quality unleaded petrol as it apparently has good cleaning properties...

I'd say the car engine cleaner Gunk, honestly it's the best thing i've ever used on anything to clean it, it takes grease and crap on even with a paintbrush. i use it around my sprockets and pretty much everywhere on the bike, paintwork the lot. Also use it on my pushbike, car, even to clean my shoes lol

Just don't get it on the driveway. Gunk lifts tar.

Jizer does a similar job.

+1 for gunk.

A good spray with that and a hot soapy wash off and it come up lovely.
I always use it.
All my engine is exposed so it gets rather filthy.

Its a peugeot speedfight, what you suggested will probably take off the powdercoat. Laughing

a brass wire brush or some scotch brite can be used on the bare alloy parts out your engine, the painted-plastic parts could do with a nylon brush and a sponge, ordinary washing up liquid neat works well when using a brush, its also non toxic easy to wash away and wont destroy your driveway/road etc like some of the harsh solvent degreasers.

If your serious about getting the engine spotless, the speedfighter engine is pretty easy to remove, taking the engine out will let you get under all the plastics(if it an air cooled) and get all the leaves and bits of old mars bar wrappers etc out if the cooling fins)
