evening all,
I ride a drz400sm, done 4200 miles and im just about to buy my third rear tyre
i dont do any burn outs or skids, but quite alot of wheelies.
the center of the tyre is almost bald and starting to like rip on the tread. (dont really know how to explain)
could this be down to wheelies and hard acceleration?
so a afew questions really:
Would a dual compound tyre stop this?
What tyres do people have on their supermotos?
the last 2 tyres i have had havnt been cheap crap either.
1 dunlop sportmax
and one continental conti sm £92
so yeah any help much appretiated
thanks

It sounds like more of a problem with the suspension, wheel alignment then tyre choice.
I have d208 spormax on my bike and the rear as now done over 4000 miles which includes 2 trackdays and a week in Scotland.
They aren't known for there long life but you should definitely get more then 2100 miles out of them on a fairly low powered bike. ____________________ Yamaha FZR400RR 3tj

Are you running the correct pressure's?
I'm chewing up the rear on my DRZ and I (attempt) to wheelie everywhere and slide into and out of corners all the time, but looks like I'll still get about 4000 from the original rear.
Sm tyres are around 25psi, give or take. Lots of people seem to run them at road bike pressures, around 35-40psi.
You should get some Avon Azaro's or similar and go green-laning anyway! |
