Hi guys

Had a tip from a certain someone that i should drill the end of my exhaust just to get the deeper tone Wink

I would do it, but wouldn't this fail it's MOT?

Its going in next month and it's all good for it, just wondering what they'd say about it...

Cheers

Laughing fair enough. Didn't you think it would be better if you put the stock one back on just for the MOT?

Mind you, if you don't have it...

Eclipse in Tranent is where it shall be going...

My grandad's getting his bullet 350 MOT'd at the same time and he knows the guys.

He might see it as being 'blowing' (or whatever term they'd use for it) and fail it on that I would think. If it's only a few weeks until it has another 12 months MOT I'd just leave it until after that.

That's what i was thinking.

Im gonna leave it... not worth risking it Laughing

Just asking in case it didn't really matter...

oyea while we are on the MOT thing....

I accidentally snatched the cable out the front brake today while i was taking the exhaust off....

Fail or would it not mattter?

I think i have broken the switch Laughing

The light still comes on with the rear brake just not the front.

Edit: by 'cable' i mean the cable that goes into the actual lever for the light.

Cheers

That would fail, How do you mean 'drilled', I assumed you drilled the down exhaust hole to remove a baffle, do you mean the sides of the can? If so I wouldn't suggest it anyway.

I couldn't be bother to put the standard can on, I also didn't have a rear reflector and my undertray is slightly dodgy Very Happy

As in the light cable would fail?

And by 'drilled' i mean 4 10 mil holes around the end of the can... if you know what a CG exhaust looks like, just 4 holes around the edge of the thing Laughing

I thought it would fail as well since technically it will be blowing.

Could always buy another standard exhaust off ebay, can be got for about 30 quid after a quick look. Then cut it as much as you want, still not going to be that loud anyway.

Front brake switch is a fail though.

Disagree it's not blowing, it's an outlet an exhaust have have more than one outlet see tailgunners or the blue flame cans.

I know someone on the TDM forum that did what OP is talking about. I say go for it.

and yes I did mean the fact the the brake light does work off the front switch will be a fail.

It'd also be an offence against the Road Vehicles (construction and use) regulations 1986: Sect. 54 'exhaust gases escaping' or 'failing to maintain silencer' if you told porkies and said it was like that when you found it!

£30 fine coming your way if you're stopped and they can be bothered - unless they go on to check the rest of your bike and find more stuff they don't like, in which case it's off to court to see the Beak!

The brake light only needs to be activated by either the front or rear brake.

edit: Apologies, I am incorrect https://www.motuk.co.uk/mcmanual_130.htm

That's only the case if the bike was originally only meant to light up from one brake, like my CB.

Looks like you better fix it.

Modifying the exhaust could also screw the fuelling up if you don't re-jet. My CD250 has no baffles in the exhausts (rusted out or removed by previous owner) - sounds great but the fuelling is all over the place.

I drilled about 6 holes in an orbit around the end of the tail can on my old Hornet 6. Still had the Hornet whurr but probably was slightly deeper in tone, its rare you get someone ride you bike past you, especially going through the gears.

It did pass an MOT with said exhaust, it failed for having the headlight secured with cable ties Laughing, once i got a bracket for that they passed it with no mention of it. Thumbs Up

Hi

If you make the bike louder than standard then it should fail the MOT (must be as quiet as a standard exhaust in reasonable condition in the opinion of the tester). However plenty will turn a blind eye.

It is also an offence to go round with an exhaust modified to be noisier than standard (even if still quieter than the legal limit). Law normally seems to be used against cars though (few cases of people being done for it with Imprezas, using the noisier exhausts that are standard road legal fitment on others models of Impreza).

All the best

Keith

My half-size standard exhaust sounds marvellous, and passes MOT wherever I take it... Thumbs Up

Easy solution; make 'brumm brumm' noises in your helmet when you want that 'deeper tone' Wink.

I did that sitting at traffic lights. I was in neutral and it was idling, and there were a few people at the lights waiting to cross, and i was making the 'brrrrum brrruuuuuuuuuuummmmmmmmmmmm' noises...

Maybe that's why they were giving me wierd looks.

It's a CG125, it'll never have a "racy" or "deep" exhaust tone. Just wait until you can get a bigger bike.

Mine is fairly loud actually. Definitely louder than the CBR125 I had.

I made a twin exhaust system out of an old bed frame and a pair of RGV250 cans for my mates CLR125 (basically a CG125), sounds lovely Laughing

(even if the 1-2 pipe does almost foul the wheel)

For the first time ever in my 13 year biking career I've put a noisy exhaust on a bike Embarassed I got a cheap second hand straight through exhaust off ebay and it has totally removed the flat spot in the rev range which was my goal Thumbs Up

I've no illusions that it's legal but it isn't ridiculously loud. Anyone here with experience of riding around with something like that give me an opinion on how likely I am to get stopped? It's totally transformed the bike, I think it may have been setup for a more free flowing exhaust previously.
