This is my second one in less than a year! This sucks!
Can anybody suggest a good painkiller/remedy that wont knock me on my arse?
Paracetamol seems to be doing sweet fuck all, thanks to chris_red I am already taking amoxcillin for it  , I just need something to stop the pain while im at work.

FFS stop taking fish antibiotics and get your arse to a dentist. To treat an abscess you need to drain the abscess AND take antibiotics (in a specific dose which I would guess the antibiotics you have aren't), not one or t'other. If abscesses are left they can actually cause spreading infection and cellulitis which can be fatal (yes, you read that right) in the head and neck region. I don't want to scare-monger but you need to get it sorted professionally.
Oh and Ibuprofen 800mg 3 times per day is the best dental painkiller (provided you don't have stomach upsets or severe asthma), however you are in pain because a large volume of pus is trying to occupy what is essentially a very tightly packed honeycomb arrangement. You need the pus removed.

No need to worry and stress i am going to get it seen, i have no fear of the dentist, i just dont really have time to get it seen to untill next week so i shall have to make do with painkillers and a mainly liquid diet untill then.
Went to boots today before i had a read of this thread, got myself some more paracetamol, when the last lot wore off i realised how much they had actualy helped, also got myself some nurofen plus, normaly stay away from the big brand stuff since its normaly the same as the boots/tescos varient, but the lady at the chemist counter said they were good
Also Stu, last time my dentist didnt drain anything she just prescribed me the Amoxcillin, that failed twice so then i had root canal. This time im just going to have the fucker removed, root canal isn't worth the £'s
Whats annoyed me the most is that since the last abscess i've been very on top of the brushing of teeth and i still got another one  Do some people naturaly have bad teeth or are more seceptable to certain conditions?

I usually pop them if they are big enough just push them really hard. 
The fish pills do have a doseage when the dentist they gave be 250mg 3 times a day, the fish pills are 250mg so 3 times a day.
They work for me.

Just back from ze dentist, I've been prescribed amoxcillin and as of next friday i shall be £50 poorer and short a tooth as well 
Will i get a denture type thing or will i just be left with a gap?

If you no have the money they no put denture thing in I just have japs at the back. You have to pay a stupid amount for dentures thingys. I want all my teeth dentures, (not really but when they are sore I want to rip the buggers out) I have sensitive teeth.
My friend has a screw in tooth at the front, says its always sore. It sometimes comes out when he sneezes

This isnt my normaly dentist its just the one i could get to see the soonest, not sure whether i should trust him or not maybe he just wants the monies.

Sometimes dentists will prescribe something called an 'Immediate Replacement' denture which is where instead of going through the whole long process of all the different stages, a basic denture is given to fill the gap. Usually though this is reserved for when you get front teeth (or at least ones you can see when you smile) taken out - the bone under the tooth will change shape in the 6-12 months after the tooth is removed (because the blood supply is removed some of it dies off) and after this time either a) a new denture is made because there is space under the old one or b) something more fixed (like a bridge) is prescribed. I'd imagine that in your case they probably think you'll be fine without one for the time being (or actually if you are being seen as an 'emergency pain' patient they are not really supposed to treat anything other than the pain).
The other option for your tooth would be to drain the abscess, give you the ABs then to do a root canal treatment on the tooth (actually starting the root canal treatment will allow a path for the abscess to drain, which is what the dentist was probably doing with your last tooth). Thing is that for these to actually be successful, there needs to be enough tooth left to actually get a decent quality filling/crown on the tooth after treatment (if it's too close to the gum, you risk the bonding/filling material getting wet which seriously reduces it's effectiveness) or else bacteria and nutrients for the bacteria can leak back into the root canal system again and start the whole process of infection all over again. Without actually seeing the tooth myself (examining it and most probably taking a radiograph of it to actually see what's going on in the bits you can't see with the naked eye) I can't possibly say whether or not the tooth is 'save-able' and therefore whether you actually have any other option than to have it out.
Wouldn't worry too much about the space tbh - it's one of your back teeth, so probably won't be seen by anyone. Also, after the 6-12 month period you can get a bridge or something which is actually fixed to fill the gap, if it still bothers you that much, meaning you don't have to worry about a denture.
Oh and on the money front, I would say that if the dentist was trying to shaft you for more cash they would have tried to push for a root canal treatment (and a filling/crown to follow) - the bill for this would most likely be in the hundreds rather than the tens.
At some point in the future I may make a thread explaining the basics of why a tooth can become painful. Basically, if you've had problems with an abscess on that tooth before and it wasn't treated properly then there is about a 95% chance that it will come back. Thing is when a tooth gets to this stage, it is beyond healing its self so needs intervention. Basically as soon as some decay reaches the nerve of your tooth you are playing the waiting game unfortunately - this is why even if you have severely improved your brushing and diet etc. you may have had existing decay which wouldn't have responded to that unfortunately. That's why going for check-ups regularly is important, hopefully you spot the decay at an early stage and can do some minor intervention (just a filling) before it actually reaches the nerve and starts to cause infection there.

Had root canal done on another tooth, a top right molar, niether that time or this time has the dentist done any sort of drainage when i've initaly been prescribed the amoxcillin.
With the other tooth, i was on amoxcillin twice which failed both times, then the call was made for either root canal or removal, i went for root canal that time.
This dentist hasnt made any mention of root canal as an option, and pretty much told me it would need to be removed, i saw this dentist about the first tooth aswell and he said the same thing, yet i had succesful root canal on that one in the end anyway. Not sure i entirely trust what this dentist says.
To be honest things have changed since last time and i dont really have the money for the root canal so ill probably just get it removed anyway, im sure ill survive just fine without the tooth
