ZZR 600 D2 Starting problem

Hi All, Wondered if anyone could help. I have a 1991 ZZR 600 D2 with what looks like a fairly new battery (not sure of age or condition inside as the vent holes are too small but its looks new and clean)

I leave the bike outside under a cover (not sure if this will be relevant or not) and almost every time I try to start it the bike trys but then it just makes a clicking noise, I have found the only way to over come this is to put the battery onto charge for at least ten minutes then try again. However the bike does seem to start immidiately if I have been using it - I was inclined to think it was the battery causing the problems until last night when I returned from a ride turn the bike off and immidiately tried to start again and all I got was this clicking noise.

Not being technical minded im Inclined to think it could be one or a combination of the following:

Battery/Dyno
Solenoid Switch

Any help would be greatfully appreciated

I was under the impression the battery is charged while the bike is in use, Like a car battery? This is why I was slightly more concerned after it didnt start after a 30 min ride?

Thanks for that - Im taking it to my local bike garage tommorow to have them look at it as I dont have a volt meter, I will suggest the regulator/recitifier to them as a possible cause.

Yea turns out it was the battery, It was charging fine but not holding the charge. Battery replaced - Problem solved. Thanks for the help.
