Just wondering if anybody else has to let their bikes warm up to around 60ish degrees before they can pull away...

When I first bought it it was sixty now it's sixty two, if I try to pull away before that it just cuts out...Just wondered if it's a common thing as a mate with the same bike can just start his and pull away...

It's an SV 1000 S btw...

Oh and if you have aftermarket cans put on a bike and have it set up to them, then put standard cans back on will the bike run ' Funny ' for want of a better word ?...

I probably know the answer to both these questions but I just thought I'd throw it out there to the BCF Massive...

Thankyouplease... Thumbs Up

There's a chance it'll run rich if you chuck the standard cans back on to it, after having the fueling set up for the aftermarket ones.

Having to warm it up that much sounds a little weird to me, but I'm far from being an expert. It might be worth bringing that one up in the Workshop, just to see if anyone's got any detailed information for you.

I'd say (in my completely inexpert opinion) that it might be worth checking the oil. See what kind of state it's in: is it getting around the engine OK, is there any sediment in the oil lines at all? Has your pump suddenly lost its oomph? As I say, I'm no expert, but having to warm it up that long suggests lubrication issues to me.

I have absolutely no idea, but maybe if it IS running too rich, that could be your problem on the pulling away front aswell?

Would warming it up for a bit longer fix that, though? Whenever I've had either of my bikes bog down, it's not something that gets sorted by having a warmer engine: I've just got to be much more careful with the throttle.

Hi

If it was rich I would expect it to probably pull away easily when cold. That it needs to be well up to temp suggests to me that it is lean.

However, I would also be tempted to check that the throttle position sensor is correctly adjusted and also that the throttles are balanced. As you open the throttle the engine needs more fuel to go with the extra air. If the TPS is out then it may not register the throttle as being opened at first, made worse when cold and needing a richer mixture.

Also worth checking the coolant temperature sensor for the fuel injection.

All the best

Keith
