What and what not to use it on?

It rained the other day so my bike is quite dirty. I'm probably going to take it in for MOT tomorrow so was just making sure all is good. While doing that I though I'd spray some WD40 on the forks, after I did that I thought Shocked

Basically which parts are ok to use it on?

Don't use it on things that grip. You know, like brakes and tyres...

apparently it can eat away at rubber, i've used it pretty much everywhere on the bike, just watch seals etc..

It can also damage rubber, and plastics if left on too long

For cleaning just make sure it is well washed off after you have finished. I use it with a tooth brush to get into the various nooks and crannies Smile

Recommended not to use on chains as it can corrode the rubber seals inside it causing siezed links.

That WD40 debate has long been argued that it's the propellant in the aerosol that forces the WD40 past the O-ring seals. If you use the spray/syphon dispensers, you'll be fine. It's petroleum based so it's just the same as using white spirit or paraffin on a toothbrush and working it in.

Spray it on the fork stanchions it'll be fine; just avoid the disks.

WD40 doesn't hurt rubber, I had a link to an experiment a guy did in a thread earlier in the year where it was discussed.

I tend to use it around the frame, degreasing wheels, swingarm, etc...works nicely as a finisher on black plastic - but Mr Sheene's better for cheapo bling.
