Gypsiews at Devils

Just been up today (Friday, no work for me today )

There are now gypsies and on the entrance to Devil's (ie coming from Ingleton and turning right). All down this road right up to the bike park.

It was causing lots of problems today, so god know's what it will be like tomorrow or Sunday.

Does anyone actually like them? All they do is cause trouble, don't contribute anything to society. They're like leeches, only without the benefit of cleaning wounds. Was talking to a few police the other day and it's shocking what little power they have against them.

I have been down that road before when the gypsies have been down there and it gets quite bad, horse shit all over the place and people really close to the road... best taking it easy (shame its a good road!)

What's the deal with Gypsies anyway?
Are they like dangerous criminals that even the police force fear?
Because that's the general consensus I get when anyone talks about them.

There's a petition going around our village to prevent the use of a local area to be used as a legal 'gypsy' site and almost no one signed it because of fear of having their name on something that could come back on them should these gypsies ever know about it.

From shows like Road Wars etc, you'd get the impression that the police fear them. The truth is more that it's pointless prosecuting them because they carry no ID, you can't prove which caravan they live in, and they'll have fucked off to the next campsite before their court date.

Hence, I suspect the police avoid confrontation to save face - getting into a confrontation means arrests, which means paperwork, and they won't get a result anyway.

I do recall a tale of a farmer who, having been told that the police have no power to move them from his field, got a number of other farmers with their shotguns for backup, then got a JCB and began digging a trench across the only exit to his field. When they challenged him, he told them that if they were still there when the trench was finished, they'd be stuck there. The story goes that this was rather effective, but I have no idea how much truth there is in it.

Yes there is a difference. Gypo's are just scum in rugged caravans towed by Transit vans with alloys and amber flashing lights claiming to be Gypsies. Whereas Gypsies (proper ones) are actually quite decent folk.

Sorry get rid of them all in my view. Why should they get away with paying no tax and not be liable for their actions as they are untraceable, yet still be able to use the NHS and other public services.

they get in the way, every year they come here and just cause trouble in the local area but the plod dont do anything.. they will prefer to use speed guns on motorists instead.

As far as im concerned if i owned a field and they brought all their crap onto it i would block the exit, play loud musicand just be an ass to them.

I have NEVER seen a decent 'gypsy' yet.

ALL of them I have seen are scum. They damage property to get to their 'camp-sites' and leave rubbish and debris where-ever they set up camp.

I don't believe that people make them feel unwelcome enough when they stop. We should block their exits, play music at them at 3am, constantly and obviously take photos and observe them...generally make them feel uncomfortable. The police should be able to inpect their vehicles and tow them instanly if any infractions are found. Instead of stopping someone on two wheels on a sunny sunday, plod should be camped outside 'gypsy' camps and doing some real 'targetted policing'.

I don't think that in a modern society there is a place for them.


I have a serious loathing for them and I hope there is a speical place in hell for them, right next to the other scum-scucking free-loaders we are infested with...politians.

I've always wondered if their vehicles have tax and insurance?

Surely if they have no proper house, the vehicles are not insured or taxed. If so, can the police still seize them?

I have dealt with travellers a lot over the years and there are a few different types. Most are legal, and are very good at separating a fool from his money. Some are so low even chavs would look down on them. The average traveller will push the boundaries as much as the next person, but it is the boundaries that they choose to push that gets to most house bound folk.

I worked in a petrol station a few years ago, we regularly got a guy in and I was always polite to him and had a natter. He was a traditional Romany Gypsy. I eventually left the job, but he went to great lengths to find me and took me out for a meal. I have never been treated so well in my life by a man. He opened the car door for me, held restaurant door, pulled seat out while I sat down, treated me to a lovely meal, and dropped me back at my front door. All this because he said I was one of the few people who treated him with respect and didn't look down on him.

They are not all bad, just the ones with the transit vans who do block paving IMO
