PostPosted: 08:43 - 30 May 2009    Post subject: No MOT but police producer?? Reply with quote

I was an idiot last night and decided to ride to my girlfriends house, even though the MOT on my bike ran out recently. Surprise Surprise the first time I get pulled over because claims that I was 'speeding' in a 30 which I knew I wasn't but the copper just said let me check your registration and I'll let you be on your way. So he checked the bike out and obviously it showed up as no MOT, don't know why but I lied and said that I got the MOT on Tuesday so maybe it's not on the database.

So I have to go to the police station in 7 days with proof of MOT. Now my question is can I go get an MOT on Monday and then go to the police station with proof? or will they notice?

Any ideas would be very helpful.

Although driving without an MOT would invalidate your insurance so you could be done for that as well. Thumbs Down

I doubt an insurance company would pay out if I smashed up my bike while riding without an MOT.

If the insurance won't pay they your riding without insurance.

*sigh* the only disclaimer on the insurance will be that you have a valid licence. No MoT will not see you getting reported for no insurance.

Whether your insurance company try and get costs back from you, or only pay TP costs is another matter.
I have actually known them cover somebody who only had a provisional licence and was driving alone.

Just checked my insurance docs and couldn't find anything on MOT. Embarassed

Surprised to say the least! Would have thought there would be a common law standard already set that the insurance companies would use to avoid pay outs.

Rolling Eyes i did try and say Very Happy

Well really the mot only means it meets the standards at the time of the test and is pretty worthless imo.. you can be reported for defects 5 minutes after an MoT pass if you were unlucky. If they were looking to avoid a payout i imagine they would examine the vehicle anyway

I'm thinking I just get it MOT'd on Monday then take the documents in on Thursday, if they say the dates don't match up I'll just say I didn't know the MOT had expired until the officer told me and I accept any fines they want to throw at me.

The insurance company will still be liable for any third party claims.
