Internet goes down every single night

Okay, I've got Virgin Internet. Its through an ADSL line because there is no cable in my street.
The internet is bloody quick. Quicker than I was expecting considering it isnt optic cable.


But once a night, Around 11pm, It will loose conection.
The lights are all okay on the router. But my PC says it cant find a network. Even though its hard wired into the router.


If I re-start the PC, And unplug/plug in the router, while the PC is rebooting. It will work fine.



Getting a bit annoying now though.





Any ideas?

Try to eliminate some variables.
Try a different router and see if it still does it.
Try a different computer (if that's possible)
If it still does it with both those things you know there's something wrong with your hard-line connection into your house and it's time to get on the phone to Mumbai to book an engineer out.

i get something similar every day at exactly midnight where msn just signs out.

but because the clocks changed, it now does it at 1am.

My mobile phone switches itself off then on again within the 15 minutes either side of midnight most nights.

As said above try a different computer, borrow a laptop or somthing. Try a different router.

Is it a netgear router? Could it be setup to refresh its IP address every 24hrs?

I would go with the router being the problem. I have had several routers and getting to the point that I change it nearly every year as they usually develop faults by about this time. I just got rid of my Netgear router as it started to corrupt everything that I downloaded and started dropping my connection. changed the router, now using the belkin n1 vision, and all my problems are gone. As you are no doubt aware most routers are available in both cable and adsl formats. adsl ones usually costing a little more due to having the modem built in.

What you could try doing is logging into your router following the instructions that should have been provided with it and look for a firmware update. usually has a positive effect. while logged in you could also check to see if there is an automatic IP refresh mode that could be causing your problem.

And just lately I don't recieve messages if I'm in the house, I get them all at once when I'm three miles down the road, pain in the arse having to pull over all the whie incase one of them is important...

My internet at home drops a few times an hour. Was working fine until they 'upgraded' the line to ADSL 2+ and since then it drops constantly. I've pretty much given up using it. Tried two different modem/routers, different PCs but no use.


I'd love for it to only drop once a night.

Has the router got any settings that dissconnect it at x time.

Is this the same time as say the central heating switches off.
If its always at the same time, there isa good chance that its eletrical interferance causing the drop out.

Try just rebooting the router, rather than restarting the PC.
