I've been to Kenya a couple of times. First time I took my gf of the time there for a fortnight over valentines. It was amazing, and fooking hot! Maybe 45degs. Second time I did a 5 day safari followed by a week on the beach.

I think you chose well with a 3 day safari, although its fantastic, it does gets quite tedious after 3 days or so.

Mombassa itself is well worth a taxi ride into, go and explore a bit. It's like a different world from the 5* resorts. You'll be driving through a shanty town, with people welding axels at the roadside, and then suddenly see a brand new shiny glass Mercedes dealership in the middle of it - very strange. It's a real eye opener into how poor some part of the world are.

Couple of bits of advice:

1. There are lots of poor people, but some arn't as poor as they make out. One guy we met said he had to walk 3km to his friends house to borrow some shoes for work every day, then give them back at night so his friend could work.

We bought him a pair of trainers - he refused to take them because they weren't designer!

2. The meat at the hotels has more than likely been in a non-refrigerated van. The fish is caught locally and will be much fresher.

I think he also managed to get a shot of me hoisting it up with a learner driver, small children AND angry locals all in-shot!
