Not much raced these days, so less come in from that area.
If you're considering a highly tuned 600, then a 750 makes a lot of sense for track days.
However, I do like the wring-the-neckness of 600s (actually seemed to improve even more with a 64hp SV650!).
Definitely worth considering for trackdays - even an older one will have plenty enough power, though, as ever... the one that got on the throttle really early and braked really late will still be the first one into the corner at the end of the straight . |

There's no race class where you can run a 750 and be competitive anymore. Since the superbike classes went 1000cc fours it left the 750s out in the cold as a race machine.
For the road yes, but for racing they are a little obsolete.
There are still a few track bikes, but they are rare since people usually want to ride on track what they see their heros racing. ____________________ My Flickr |

The 750 would probably be more reliable, but it depends on what you mean by a few extra ponies.
i.e. full supersports tune, or just an end can.
Personally I'd say go with the 6 as it'll teach you more and you'll find more second hand parts.
As G says outright power makes very little difference on the track, it's more down to how early you get the power down.
As an example I've been out with British 125 GP racers, and I only started to make ground on them after about 400-500 metres on straight, this was on my Hornet 6. ____________________ My Flickr |

Far more CBR track bikes around.
As far as I know it is considered to be the slightly better track bike, but again, it's more down to the rider. For me it would be more track bikes = more trick spares. ____________________ My Flickr |
