hi there
i bought a new igniter unit off ebay the other day but i'm struggling to find which wires connect to where. does anyone have a GS 125 with an igniter and wouldn't mind taking a look for me? i only need to know because if i plug the live input in the wrong connector this could blow the unit, and thats not really what we're after to be honest
thanks

yes, you see i suppose i should've explained.
i was told i could convert the ignition system to one with an igniter (the one shown in the pic) rather than the CDI that i had which does not use the battery and is, lets say, not as common so is extremely hard to find another one. therefor, when converting my bike to this i do not have the connector blocks which is why i needed to know where the individual wires would go instead so that i dont inadvertantly put the live input on the wrong one and blow it.
unfortunately i got impatient and went ahead and took an educated guess, it still doesn't spark but i'm not sure if thats because of something i've done or if something else is wrong! thanks anyway but i'll have to take the bike to a mechanic next week which i didn't want to do as my bank account is empty enough as it is
thanks

ah yesss at last, we took the bike to a nearby garage yesterday and he said the brand new igniter unit that we bought for £28 was, as he put it, "pathetic chinese crap". fair enough i suppose, so he gave me one he had in the back and it fired right up and we were on our way.
just need to build up my confidence now, the throttle cable also needs adjusting as it is constantly revving high (i made it to the top of my road and back again without even turning the throttle .
Thanks to everyone for your help, hopefully the Gs won't be plaguing these forums for a while .

yeah, we've checked that. we think the throttle cable may just be snagging on somethig slightly under the tank or just maybe that the cable itself is too short.
thanks

yeah really sorry to bring the dreaded Gs back to the forum but i promise after this you will not hear of it again for at least a couple of weeks .
All i need is an opinion really.
as i've said, we got the bike running the other day, but to get it running we've had to bump start it as it would nae start under the kicker. and when it was running it was idling way too high. this morning i stripped the carb down, and it wasn't really too mucky, but the pilot jet was blocked so we cleaned that, put everything back together and it fired up fine on the kicker. the problem is, is that it still idles extremely high, we've adjusted the air screw and that is out as far as it will go to reduce idle but doesnt help.
Now, what we're thinking is that maybe the choke is broken inside, so that even though the switch is in the off position it is actually on (i'm going to check this tomorrow). Does anyone know wether this would cause the bike to have an unusually high idle?
thanks

ok then, seems i've been a wee bit stupid then i guess any ideas where the idle screw is then! CONFUSION MUCH I THINK!
on the picture the bigger screw is the air, the other thats just visable on the left of that is the fuel one. thats it apart from the drain screw at the bottom... HELP!!!!! |

ok i'll take some pics tomorrow, surely if i wing it in it'll like explode or something , haha no but wont that make it rev higher? thats why the screw is pretty much all the way out. the reason i thought about the choke is that when running (he probably shouldnt have done this) my uncle turned the fuel screw and the revving started to drop. do you think that could be the problemo?
thanks

ok, i took some pics of the carb today. the choke mechanism seems to work fine but another problem has presented itself . when i put the carb back together (very well i thought ) and turned the fuel tap on, the carb drain tube just started pouring out petrol even when the drain screw was all the way in, so i had to turn the fuel tap off before it would stop! any ideas to what i could have done to it would be great as it wasn't like that yesterday .
anyways heres the pics.
thanks
