For the first time in ages I've been out shooting bikes today, so I thought I'd post a few shots up on here. Lots of sun, lots of bikes, good day out. Thumbs Up

For larger copies click the pic and then the 'all sizes' button.

Nice one...I missed the track action since I was pit side this weekend, but I had a superb experience...seeing how it all works...getting in on the background action...being right at the front for the Podium action. Watching the racing from the screen inside the garage down pit lane... Very Happy

Sounds good. Westmoreland did well yesterday too, didn't he? Seem to remember he got pole, but my memory's not usually up to much on these things. Did today go as well? (I didn't catch any of the supersport races)

350D with a 70-200 f4. Though the lens is great it was a bit short and some of the shots are fairly heavily cropped as a result.

Love them, I think I would have attempted for a few darker shots (not lots, just feels like they're /really/ bright in some of them).

But ace photos Thumbs Up

Clanger, I felt so sorry for JW! Couldnt believe it on the last lap aswell! Was hoping for a 2nd or 3rd at least, did his tyres just start to fade at the end or what?

No, his tyres were relatively okay, basically when Steve Plater came up and made a move on him, it made James sit up and he lost concentration a bit...which is a real shame because he was so good on that last section of the track.

Of course he was gutted with his 4th position, but to get pole, and smash the lap record...he did really well. But I reckon it couldn't have been easy after the restart, especially as they come back to the garage for 5 mins and hear about what happened to Dennis Hobbs (his mate), and see the accident re-run...and then go out and race...

I was also on stand-by to be his brolly dolly (get my 15 mins of fame), but unfortunately a pro was drafted in at the last minute...boo!!! But at least she didn't get any airtime of Eurosport Very Happy

Cheers. As for the brightness I guess that's largely a personal preference. I tend to like fairly bright, saturated, contrasty shots.

Get the 1.4x TC. I've got one on order.

I'm very seriously considering it, as it's going to be the cheapest way to get a bit more length whilst retaining decent image quality and not blowing a huge amount on a new lens altogether. I think I'd still end up cropping quite a bit at 280mm though, especially if I start heading over to some of the less 'tog friendly circuits. I've just picked up a siggy 17-70 which will be getting its first outing at the Goodwood supercar sunday next weekend, so my bank balance needs a bit of time to recover anyway.

You will loose your AF when you use that TC if you dont have a pro body.

Ive tried the TC with both:

Canon 5D 100-400mm IS USM L
Canon 400D

On both cameras i loose AF which is ok if you want to get used to picking the spot you want to take the photo at but it can be difficult. You can tap the connections to try and stop the camera knowning a converter is attached.

I'm 99% sure that's not the case with the 70-200. The 2x loses AF, but not the 1.4x. The reason the 100-400 loses AF is that its maximum aperture setting is lower than F4.

With the 2x the required aperture for AF is 2.8 or higher, so you'd need the 70-200 2.8 for that.

See this thread for info: https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=41922

Edit: Make that 100% sure - check out the second post with the lens compatibility table.

Having looked at the pics on a calibrated monitor instead of just my laptop, I've got to admit I'm wrong, lots of the shots are overexposed. Fairly easy to fix fortunately, since they were all shot in raw.

After a bit of editing I think this might be my favourite of the lot:

Course I wouldn't, I hope he likes it. Smile

I've just had a quick run through and I've got a few semi-decent shots, though I think the one I uploaded initially is still the best of the bunch.

Anyone going to Snetterton?

If so I'll be at the holding pen after the superstock 6's are on track, picking up bike 19.

Clanger, I just realised it was Dom posting not you, so my PM now makes no sense. Laughing

Doh, I know they're JW - I misread your message as you'd mentioned JW elsewhere. No harm done.
