The project started like this:
https://www.gaz-racing.co.uk/images/vehicle_576.JPG

One whole generator with a dropped valve, and a spare engine and generating bit, but the generating bit is completely smashed.

After removing the smashed generator bit, this was the inside of the 'good' engine. G told me that it was bought brand new, and was then involved in a car accident. So it has never run, or ever had any oil in it.

I replaced the rusty cam cog thing with the one from the knackered engine and lined up the two dots which I assume makes the timing right (Set at TDC).

This was the state of the inlet valve of the good head. Talk about crusty! Came up a treat with a bit of a clean though.

Good generating bit onto the good engine. Had to use a stack of washers on the end of the bit central bolt since it was slightly different on the two engines.

Had to make a gasket - 70p

Good generating bit on good engine.

Back in frame.

I've actually reattached the carb, airbox and petrol tank but havn't taken any photos. It felt really really crusty when turning it over by hand. Maybe I've reassembled something not quite right. But I added oil anyway, and it's loosening off a bit.

Next step is to check timing, check spark and see if it'll start.

Any chance that the bearings on whatever* the pullcord is attached to might be shagged?

*Can't remember the name of it, I'm a bit out of it at the moment... Very Happy

Nah, no chance. There is no pullcord, although I think it just attaches to the flywheel.

I've been turning it over using a socket on the big nut on the flywheel.

Tbh I reckon the generator might not be quite square in the magnetic outter bit and might be touching it as it spins.

That, coupled with fairly crusty bearings.
