hey guys just put a new piston and rings in my honda mtx 125r

cud some 1 telll me the best way to break the piston in as i need the bike 4 the week end

oh its 2 stroke aswell

why are you putting a new piston and rings in? Did it blow up?

If so it really is down to the condition of the bore ... is it scroed at all? (pics would help).

If its all ok, then chuck the new piston in. Its best to adjust the 2-stroke pump so it pumps more oil for the first few hundred miles. An alternative is just to cuck some in the tank ... don't go mad as you will end up with the bike running lean, but ~15cc per liter should be ample!! Smile

Then just use the bike as normal, but keep it away from top revvs - you are ok with the odd blip, but avoid prolonged periods.

yea the piston blew
the barrel has a few deep scratches but got told they were ok by a bike mehanchic

wudnt now were to adjust it so i think ill leave it

so u say put a lil bit more in the tank and run the bike but not to hard

Yep, run an oily tank through, keeping off top revs and you are good to go. Thumbs Up

The first say 20 miles are the most critical to keep the revs down, but by the end of the tank (150 miles?) you should be almost back to normal ... just build it up gradually, avoiding sustained high revs

Not seen the bore, but I'd recomend runing some emery cloth around the bore to take away any high points ... it'll also help 'hone' the bore for the new piston. Only use the cloth cylindrically i.e. don't go up and down the bore like the piston does, circle round it. Or better still in a slightly 'hash' way. Rather than horizontal, 45deg one way - 45deg the other

the mechanic told me to use a very fine wet and dry sand paper to take ne ruff or high points and said dnt rub to hard just till its smooth.dne that and all done.,

looks like ill have to drain a bit of 2 stroke out of the tank now lol

Surely you have a bottle of 2-stroke so don't need to drain it from the tank?!!? ... If you don't, you will need some eventually so you might as well get some now!!! Wink

yea i did but filled the 2 stroke bottle up on the bike today lol ill get another .how much shall i put in the tank then

15cc/liter is about right to see you nicely lubed up, its actually prolly a bit over oily if you include the oil fed by the bike too .. but a bit too much should be ok for a short while .. so if you put 10liters in the bike, you need 150cc of oil ... 5liters, 75cc of oil etc etc ....
