My lap top is really really slow and takes me about 10 mins to get into any site. tried updating as there is two important updates waiting and its failed twice??

this is the error:

WindowsUpdate_80072EFE"

before anyone says google I would but probably wouldnt understand it and it would take my lap top all night at the rate its going.

Evil or Very Mad

I have windows vista basic.

According to this:
https://www.mcse.ms/message2312853.html
try this:

Then you can try this what i found on the net:

Rename the SoftwareDistribution folder (it will be recreated next time you

visit

WU again)

You will lose your history but thatâ€TMs not important.Click Start, Choose Run.

In the Run box, type services.msc.

Click OK.

Right-click the Automatic Updates service.

Click Stop.

Stopping the service will take a moment.Rename the “SoftwareDistribution”

folder:

a. Click Start, click Run, type %systemroot%, and then click OK.

b. Right-click the SoftwareDistribution folder, and then click Rename.

c. Type SoftwareDistribution.old, and then press ENTER to rename this folder.

Click Start. Choose Run.

In the Run box, type services.msc.

Click OK.

Right-click the Automatic Updates service.

Click Start.

Starting the service will take a moment.

could you not format and start again?

your laptop certainly sounds like it could do with it.

this shouldnt make a difference but ive found it sometimes does with troublesome windows updates...

try running updates with a patch cable connecting you to your router instead of wireless.

forgot about this thread. Its working now, next day I turned it on and updated it and its been fine since. I would be afraid to format it in case I loose my photo shop and I dont want to mess with it. Its working ok now. It takes notions though.

Hey DF, put winpatrol on your laptop.
Slow speed could be from too many programmes running in the background from start-up.
