I was out with my friend and he has a scooter and had never been on a geared bike so said take me on it, so me being dumb as dumb and been arrogant and thinking there will be no risk of getting done as my bike looks more like a 125 and has only the front l plate on but its been cut out so you carnt recognise it that bad either. So numb nuts here gets on the bike and off we trot with our helmets and start heading down to bridge north. I pass a few bikers get some nods and then suddenly they all start like waving their hand, so at first i thought what the hell and then i got another one so though its either been a crash or theirs police about. Me not thinking again carried on and i see one police man on a bike and he stares at me hard im doing 50 so not being stupid and drawing attention to myself. I get into swancoat look round some bikes then head out again down towards bridgenorth. A few minitues later i find myself at the island and go straight over down into the long twisty hill SHIT! I see another police man on a bike going the opposite way i check my mirrors and hes doing a U turn at this point, at this point im sticking to 40 hoping he hasnt seen it and was about to turn right off the island to go into the petrol station. When he comes up beside me and tells me to pull over so i do and at this point another copper comes up on another bike. He then starts looking round my bike while the other copper is asking for my details including if I've passed my test etc etc then checks all my details their fine apart from incorrect licence. Then the other copper pops his head up after looking at my front tyre and saying this aint to clever i quickly shouted up yea its getting changed thursday. Which hopefully it will be but ive yet to book it in then he asks for my mates details etc etc their all correct and explains whats going to/could happen so the check list off things.

Not passed test to carry a passenger [/]
That equals invalid insurance [/]
Tyres not great [/]
Only one l plate [/]
Bikes de-restricted (he didnt check that though) [/]
3 points on my licence and 60 quid fine [/]
Bike sized and crushed for invalid insurance [/]
summoned to court [/]

So yea thats about it.....

He must off been in one hell of a good mood because he let me off with the incorrect licence. Isnt going to report the insurance company and tell them i did it. I need to get my tyre done. Isnt going to do me for the l plate which would equal another 3 points and 60 quid fine. Didnt check for de-restriction although followed me down the hill at 40! Hes not going to give me another 3 points on my license and 60 quid fine for incorrect license. He isnt going to sieze my bike for invalid insurance for carry a passenger. And last but not least he isnt going to summon me to court for all of the above.

GOD WAS WITH ME TONIGHT FOR SOME REASON! AND YES I KNOW I WAS A DUMB SHIT FOR DOING IT AND LESSON LEARNT!!!!!

From what I gather.

Took mate on back of his bike without passing his test.
Got pulled, got let off quite lightly.

Fair play to the copper though and at least you seem to have learnt your lesson.

Which means that the insurance would pay out if you had an accident, then, if they could prove your pillion was the cause of the accident, claim some money back from you. They may also not cover any injuries to him.
Expecting not to get stopped because your bike looks like a 125 seems a bit foolish - the police will expect most 125 riders to be learners.

I thought a 50cc 'moped' only had to have visible tread for tyres to be legal, presume this is what you were on.

3 points is about right, they coulda been nicer, but would have had a hard time being nastier with the law. Still, reckon you were lucky as there's plenty of other ways to be nasty.

Lesson - if you're worried about police activity, bail as soon as possible, including making your friend walk back.

Seems to be a conflicting answer
i was taught years ago for some reason it was like this quote
"The legal limit for motorcycle tyre tread depth is 1.0mm (N.B. Most depth wear indicator bars on motorbike tyres are 0.8mm - below the legal limit)."
But some places say just visible tread..

Motorcycle = 1mm rule, Moped (which a 50 is classed under) visible tread only.

Been there and done that. You were lucky. I was lucky when i got done for "driving without accordance to my license". All I got was a youth police interview (because i was still 16) and they gave me a repremand. My mate at college got done with 3 points and £60. I suppose having my dad as pillion who was licensed to ride the bike in the first place was what let me off.

Did he give you a producer? I couldn't tell because i wasn't bothered reading thorugh all that (head's already messed up revising for finals).

Basically if you weren't given any paper work or producer or ANYTHING of that sort, you got off VERY lightly.

Count yourself lucky then Wink Thumbs Up
