Typical year again trying to find cover at a decent price. I tried all the usual suspects such as 'gocompare' 'compare the market' 'bennets' 'Mce' 'Swinton' 'Tesco' etc etc and all were pretty ridiculous, all giving me different quotes from the same people. All the quotes were up on when I tried last week, despite some sites only asking for accidents within 3 years instead of 5.

In the end up I went against my better judgement and just rang up one of the good quotes and done a bit of haggling/begging.

The result being I went from my original renewal of £546 with 'Performance Direct' (even though I got a far better quote off them when I tried online, bastards) to £380 with 'Bikesure'.

MCE by the way are a bunch of vampyrific buggers even for the expected level of insurers. Not only have they sent a bunch of begging emails but they've phoned me at least 7 times at work today despite me phoning them back twice and asking them politely to do one. I was half expecting to get home and find one of them on my doorstep!

Bloody insurance Laughing

Thing is though, my mrs works in a call centre and Im finding it increasingly difficult to give them both barrels via one of BT's finest lines - especially if its a bird on the other end Mad

Probably what makes it so grinding is that you bend over backwards trying to conform to their little lists and then give them a huge wad of cash, and most of it likely goes to a department that gets paid a mint to avoid paying you out if you ever need it Rolling Eyes

Or mention that you had a quote a lot cheaper and see if they hang up or try to match....

Then say that sounds good, I'll just get my card and then spend the next 30 mins muttering where is my card........

I had MCE phone me up whilst I was in tescos the morning I was going to look at a bike, I turned it to my advantage and got a number to call back when I had the bike and got my cert emailed through to the dealers so I could insure it then and there to drive away. Worked out ok for me.

I think the worst part of them was that they were nearly 140 notes short of my cheapest quote, well over five hundred quid!

This is a real pain.
When myself and the ex were looking for bike insurance we were testing out different bikes to see which would be financially better to insure.
We had phone call after phone call - Infact one was only 5 mins after we done the quote.
From now on I put a fake number down because I got fed up of it Laughing

I always put 01234 567890.... seems to work most of the time as it appears valid. If you go ahead with them just change it with them later.

If you give your real phone number out on those compare sites you are mad! 80+ insurance companies get your home phone number with a click of the button!

I don't even give my real house number out, some poor sod up the street probably gets all my spam mail.

If you do a quote with The Bike Insurer, you'll get a call within a few minutes of submitting the quote. The best was 2 minutes! Whoever it is says they're calling on behalf of The Bike Insurer, then proceeds to give me a quote several hundred pounds above the best quote from the website!

The only way to avoid the calls is to give a fake number. I tried ignoring the call, so they rang twice a day for two weeks until I gave up and answered. Now I give them an old number that's been disconnected.

No, because you've only had the policy for 11 months.

It's insurance companies we are talking about here. Conmen that are allowed to operate.
