not that i can think of for a cylinder head gasket.

i asume you will be fitting the full set, not just the ones on the cylinder head
(i mean the one that sits between the engine and the cylinder to stop water leaks etc..)

- just drain all the water out
- take the water pipes off that go to the cylinder head.
- Take the coil off the spark plug.
- take the 4 cylinder head stud bolts off.
- take the head off (might be abit tough if it hasnt been off for a long time, just try not to stick a screw driver in there as it can chip/wear down that part of the cylinder making it leak.
- Slide the cylinder off, watching the piston doesnt get damaged
- take the old gasket off the base of the engine and replace.
- put some 2 stroke oil on the piston rings/small end bearing/cylinder (a thin layer round should be fine)
- make sure the piston rings are sitting in the correct place and slide the cylinder head back on (put the piston so its just touching the cylinder, squeeze the rings tight and let the cylinder go down, might take awhile, but it has to be done correct.
- replace all the gaskets on the top (you will know which ones go where)
- pretty much everything els in reverse order

Good luck!

If you want to be anal you could use a torque driver to do up the head bolts to the required torque (should be in the W/Shop manual)

Normally i just do them up bit by bit, corner to corner until i feel they are tight enough.

You forgot

- Cross your fingers and hope it doesn't leak. Smile

While the cylinder is off, you can try and push the crank around to see if theres any extreme movment in the big end bearings.
also check the conrod hasnt got any up and down pay in the bearings.

Nice one cheers, I just dont want to spend loads of money on parts for it because once im used to the bike im putting a hebo 80cc kit in it. Is that all I should check and should I not be worried as to why it went in the first place?

Why not bother is it just that its not very good, or its a waste of money for a 50? Because the money isnt a massive issue, I just couldnt decide between the hebo or malossi. I'm not really sure if it seized or blew, as far as im aware it just blew. A garage checked it and said that the head gasket had just blown. It was still riding just very slow, 20mph or so compared to 60 beforehand.

I have a malossi one, was good i guess, but you need to be very mechanically minded or have cash for a garage to charge you alot for doing all the work, they usualy seize up anyway, for the like what... £300 you will spend on getting it running right that will give you about 10mph..... simply not worth it at all, might aswell keep the standard and get your kicks down a steep hill.

as for it going slow, im not 100% sure thats the head gasket? is there water in the radiator, if so, is it leaking out at all, will the engine turn over?

it sounds more like you need a new piston and rings more than anything els, could also be the oil seals gone.

Yeah it turns over fine the garage said the piston rings are a little worn but not enough to warrant replacing and that it is just the head gasket. I fitted the last big bore kit, although it was on a ped, is there any big differences?

there are millions upon millions of setups for the carbs, putting the big bore kit on isnt really a good idea, remember these engines are built to do 30mph?

also depends on what other mods you have on how to set the carb up, race exhaust, K&N filter etc..

well if your only enough to ride a 125, get a 125!!!!

a stock & restricted 125 usualy puts out around 14bhp, a 50cc fully kittet out with near on £1000 on everything, will only put out 15bhp, and still not do much past 70......

what? im saying riding a 125 is gonna be slow no matter what. i was saying that to relate to "speedjunkie" that why not just wait and get something bigger....that can do twice the speed for half the price if thats what biking is all about to you.

The main reason for getting it is so I can get used to using gears, then take my test and get something bigger. But insurance on a big bike at 17 with no, no claims... I would rather get a year or two and then get a bigger bike. Also would like to get my driving test out of the way aswell first..

Exactly, you are doing what im doing. good.

Just dont bother "doing it up" keep it nice and original, better resale value in a year or 2 time.

i cant help but disagree with that, riding a full power 125 feels pretty fast, Rs 125, nsr 125 etc..

and no, thats not just what biking is to me, but givin the choice, do you wona go slow, or fast, i pick fast anyday!

after all the bikes are pretty much the same but with bigger engines.
