Going in to work today around 1pm, someone decided to test out my brake line/pad/seal fitting skills thoroughly.

Was going straight over this nasty arse roundabout on the A41 (see picture, some may no it. It's truly lethal). Anyway, I wasn't speeding, I was happy in my lane and just trying to get through.

Cars to the right were queing for traffic light (my pet hate, traffic lights ON roundabouts), but despite one slightly encroaching my lane I could get through. (grey box, in the google street it's where that crane is).

I'm the blue dotted line btw (it's tradition to have a paint diagram)

Dickhead in a estate van decides he want's to overtake someone on the left and cuts me up... ok, irritating but never mind (red dotted line). Then realises however that he has no space, so slams the anchors on.

So I instantly emergency stop... py.

Seriously, I do stoppies quite regularly when I'm having a play, I'm not a fan but I at least don't panic and have a vague idea of hieghts. And this was epic. And slightly sideways because I was going around a roundabout.

Anyway, having nearly thrown myself out of the thing I landed it, nearly dropped it then and sat there waiting for my nuts to come out of my stomach. (That's why I want the medal, d'ya see now Wink)

Heres the weird part, I sat and waited behind the prick without killing him because I honestly thought I must of been tailgating. Even thought it was strange that some woman crossing the road at the traffic lights (just to the right of perspective) had a scream at him for me (like I say, it must have looked fucking epic).

As I rode off I felt compelled to get parallel with him, glare and slap/tap his wing mirror (contemplated ripping it off, but as mentioned, I wasn't certain).

Then about 4 hours later, puff... remembered he cut me up and slammed on. I wasn't to blame and evidently have the reflexes of a cat (and a brain made of sponge).

So...
1) Valid wing mirror raping opportunity missed?
2) How the hell can you emergency stop below 40 ish (with braided lines and sintered pads Neutral) without damn near flipping the bike?
3) Who's going to give me my damn medal?!?!

1. Yes deffo
2. An emergency stop is bringing the vehicle to a controlled stop without locking the front or rear wheel. Bullshit in real life though, what you need is some damn good rubber, them being heated, decent brakes and like you say reactions of a cat, all of which I lack.
3. E-medal awarded

BT021 so kinda good.

25~ miles into my commute so warm, on a warm day, on decent tarmac, just after it starts to get lively enough to warm the sidewalls aswell.

Brakes just had new seals and sintered pads... so lively enough.

Thing is, I've been contemplating re-bleeding them as I didn't think they were that potent. Obviously I'm just giving myself far too much time to stop normally Laughing

Was very lucky to be honest. Like I say, I was slightly cranked over too... so the back was coming round to the left swiftly.

And I want a cookie too Crying or Very sad *sniff*

Still, any advice on avoiding the stoppy? Didn't have time to lean back, and wouldn't have wanted to think about that either. Didn't have the space to let out and reapply either. And normally I ride pretty much upright, which is probably how I (just about) managed to keep myself attached to the bike.

Hmm, I dont really remember my near misses, as I think I seem to just lapse into survival mode.

But as for advice, while you wouldnt think it, I reckon applying both brakes at the same time (no matter how piss poor your rear is) can sometimes avoid a stoppie.

I /actually/ have no idea how it works, but I've pulled stoppies (small ones) then in the exact same situation (speed, tyres, tarmac, braking force) slammed on the rear brake also, and it seems to provide a negating extra gravitational force to my rear wheel Laughing Neutral

Other than that, nice one on avoiding death, good sir. Medal is in the post.
