Hey,
I've had pretty bad tinnitus in my right ear for 2 weeks now. I woke up one morning and there it was!
I look after my ears, wear earplugs on the bike/pub/clubs, don't listen to my music too loud.

I went to the doc who suggested allergies and have been on anti histamine since. It hasn't really made a difference. I've never suffered from allergies (that i'm aware of). However during the recent warm weather we've been having I have noticed my hearing has diminished and i've felt bunged up.

Just before I got this problem i was also under a lot of stress, court case etc

I've suffered from mild hissy tinnitus for some time which I never really noticed, however this new frequency is driving me crazy! I cant stop putting my hands over my ears to check its level!

Just after some advice. What do you other sufferers do to help yours?

Shaun.

And before you start thinking I'm some kind of weird loner who goes into night clubs to hide in a corner...I'm actually engaged and living with my Fiancé.

Hope you never get tinnitus. Thanks for the not so helpful comment. Shame BCF is so full fo your type these days!

I've had it in my right ear for a couple of months, a constant white noise sound. I'm also slightly deaf in my right ear which came at the same time as my tinnitus.

I went to the doctors on Tuesday, he syringed my ears out (some nasty stuff in there Sick) but it made no difference. He told me to put warm olive oil in my ear every day for the next 2 weeks and see if it improves, if not he'll refer me to the ear clinic. I do wonder sometimes about my doctor.

The loudest thing I listen to is wind noise on the 'bike because I can't stand having ear plugs in. I got my deafness and tinnitus half way through a 6 month break from bikes so really doubt it's that.

I've just put it down as one of those things. You get used to it.

The olive oil softens and breaks up waxy deposits deep in the ear canal and allows it to slide out, it works. Your doctor isn't mad.

Yes, I have a mild constant sound in both ears. And yes I used to go to clubs/festivals/rock concerts and not protect my ears.

It's totally my own fault. But I can usually fade it out, I only hear it if I'm doing absolutely nothing, and right now because I am thinking about it!!!

But generally it's not a problem. And I do protect my ears as much as possible now, to stop it getting any worse. Smile

I understand that, but it's not going to help with my tinnitus and my ears are clear of wax. So why I have to do it for 2 weeks and then go back to him if it hasn't improved is weird if you ask me. Why not just refer me straight to the ear clinic?

He's just checking if you still have blocked ears before seeing if you really have ear damage.

There's no guarantee that syringing will remove all of the deposits internally, there may be a particularly hard plug at the top of the canal behind a constriction (some people have narrow points in the ear). If that's the case you'll be referred to an ENT specialist to check out the situation and be dealt with accordingly if it continues after your olive oil administrations.

Good luck with it Smile

He looked in my ear with his little tool and said there's only a couple of flakes in there now. Oh well, maybe I'll try some later but I just can't be bothered warming it up.

It only really needs to be body temperature. Pour some into a little phial or a small bag you can seal and carry it around stuffed down the arse crack of your underwear to keep some on hand and at the right temp.

Simples Very Happy

I have suffered with this on and off for the last few years, without meaning to scare or worry you if you have any type of hearing loss I suggest you press the need to see an ent doc to your gp asap.

Mine is caused by a tumour called an acoustic neuroma on the left side of my brainstem, if you have no hearing loss then you don't have to worry, if you do then it's not as bad as it sounds and can be treated well.

Things with stuff like this is they cant provide a time when or if it will get better
I had glue ear for about 2 months which meant i was practically deaf for two months - so what did the doctor do? prescribed me a nasal spray?? its all linked up, so if your congested in your nose or coughing up flem apparently this also affects
well anyway i thought it was odd, she said to me it can go in 5 minutes to 50 years, thanks..
Id just take your doctors advice and be patient and keep going back if it gets worse.
