on the way home from work i got pulled over by the police and thought it was for something like, loud exhaust, speeding etc and it was for my lights not being switched on.

which is a bit odd as my bikes lights come on when the bike is switched on. anyway i told them that an the 3 of us went to look at the bike and switched it back on and the lights came back on.

any idea why the lights may not have come on the first time?

hi

dirty connection in the light re-lay or a lose or dirty earth so have a poke around and see what you find.

its difficult to say for sure as electric issues are either loss of power bad earth faulty component etc.

multimeter and wd40 are worth there weight in gold Thumbs Up

It might be as simple as them making a mistake or just some lame excuse for stopping you. Just keep your eye on the lights over the next few days.

the lights were off though when i stopped. the guys were decent, one of them thought something was up as he had a bike which i assume had automatic lights as well.

they didnt say anything about riding with a black visor on at 2am either Smile

going to give the bike a good strip and clean when i get my fzr back on the road so will give the relays a good check.

As someone else said, get a bit of contact cleaner in the light switch. Also how much play is there in the ignition barrel?

It might actually be the ignition barrel has enough play to lose contact from time to time ... I've had this where the whole bike shuts down, but can see it might happen just on the lights if its wired such.
