Not sure whether to post this in here as has little to do with taking the bike.
A group of my friends are going to Dublin next weekend for a piss-up etc. Friday - Sunday.
Friday and Saturday being the nights out, what can I expect to pay each night including taxi? I can get a Ryanair ticket for £90, but how much would taking one of the bikes on a ferry cost return? Will I have a good time on £400?
Any advice appreciated. Thank you kindly in advance ____________________ Current Bikes: Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 (2020)

From then on, I and the bicycle feelings deeper. |

Are you looking to go to clubs or do a bit of a pub crawl? I mean you can't go wrong with Temple Bar area for pubs, unfortunately I never managed to venture far from there on the pub side of things, although I enjoyed The Porterhouse (seems to play classic rock, may have a few bands playing)
AFAIK the Holyhead-Dublin ferry is 45e each way on a bike.
For Taxi's, just flag them down off the streets, and always always barter for the price cause the guys just make them up as they go along!
I think £400 will do you ok, as long as you're not boozing from mid afternoon you'll be grand, expect ~100->120e a night though? |
Thanks mate! This is what I expected to pay really. Though on a plus side, our hotel is only 4 mins walk from temple bar so no need for taxi. I have a habit of drinking too much and managed to get lost in Inverness on a night out, but this time my phone has google maps and gps. ____________________ Current Bikes: Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 (2020)

I'm off to Dublin on Thursday... £88 return on stena line. Only problem with taking the bike is parking it somewhere safe, bonus is you can take as much luggage as your bike will carry. I'm ok as my dad lives over there (Dublin 4, south-side! ) and his apartment has secure underground parking. If you do fly, you'll have to get from the airport to your hotel. The air coach is 15euros return and they pretty much drop you off in all the major places in dublin.
I've managed to blow well over £400 in a long weekend, but that did include a rather expensive trip to shelburn dog track (well worth a night out, starts at 7ish, finishes at 10ish). Stay away from temple bar. It's full of fat business men letching at the hen-do mob. There's nearly always a fight and the drinks are way over priced (8 quid a pint in some places! ). Go to Harcourt Street for the clubs. There's D-TWO (underneath the Harcourt Hotel) and "Copper Face Jacks"(known locally as Slapper Face Jacks, or simply "Slappers" for obvious reasons... If you don't pull in there you must be a proper munter!). The clubs down there are much cheaper than Temple Bar and it's mostly full of Irish folk... the blokes are sound and the lasses are well up for it! Just jump in a taxi and ask to be taken to Harcourt Street... The driver will probably ask if you're off to "Slappers" and as they've probably already been past there a few times, you usually get a "totty forecast"! . Don't get there too early though, the clubs don't get busy until well after midnight, so pace yourself. If you want somewhere good to drink before hitting the clubs, "Russel Court" in Harcourt Street is fantastic, cheap (for Dublin) and it has a massive outdoor area with heaters for the smokers. Usually plenty of talent in there too!
The Guinness tour is worth the 14euros if you like the stuff and Dublin Zoo was a surprisingly good day out! Other than that, Grafton Street for the buskers is a must! And I hope you have a good time over there! I can't get enough of the place!
Hope that helps
Drew
p.s, If you must go to temple bar... go on a sunday night and pop into the "MEZZ Bar". There's a load of folk who turn up with their own instruments and jam all night. They're usually pretty good and the tranvestite saxophone player is a must see! ____________________ 1977 Honda CG125
