I was thinking of taking a punt at this but 10 years old, 5 owners but only 7K miles does not seem kosher. Your opinions please.

Hmm. Looks like a lot of cash for an italian SV650, and I'd be concerned as to why the frame has been painted/powder coated. Rings alarm bells to me.

AFAIK:- frame and wheels are incorrect to the rest of it, or visa versa.I thought the "dark£ referred to an all black affair in a matte black colour. Though i could be wrong.

Mileage could be ok, but id be after every mot to back it up. Ducati owners(well most) tend to look after the bikes and dont use them in the rain/winter/slight chance of rain in 72 hours. They tend to be used as summer weekend toys.

Go take a butchers.

That's just how they are when they're made isn't it? Couldn't see anything in the advert about it being done later, and my mate's dad's monster has the frame painted.

I've never ever seen yellow before, and the dark is supposed to be as it says... matt black... dark.

There are better bikes for the money, but if it HAS to be a ducati then it has to be a ducati but I reckon you could get one a bit cheaper that isn't as dodgy as that.

As said, the darks were unpainted, like this -

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/18/Ducati_Monster_620_Dark.jpg

We get quite a few Ducatis in at work, and none of them are ever high milers, so i wouldnt worry about that, but as its been painted i'd be a bit suspect tbh.
And as always with Dukes, find out when the belts were last changed - its not a hard job for a competent bloke such as yourself if they do need doing. Thumbs Up

Only had a quick look, but it looks like it's got SS forks and front wheel. The wide 3 spokes are early wheels. Doesn't appear to match the rear, either.

SS front end

Monster dark, the forks are different,

Also

Found this, have a look, looks like the same bike to me? Unless I'm completely wrong about all the above, and they did come out the factory like that?

My best mate just bought a Monster, same year dark model too.

He's very anal, and spent bloody ages (3 months or so) scoping out to find the right one, and yes they come up cheap low mileage. A lot of them seem to go for between 1200 and 1800 with sub 12k miles.

The condition of them seems to vary. Personally I wouldn't be /too/ worried about the powdercoating etc, someone that has gone to the effort of doing it will clearly have thought about it, probably cleaned and redone things as they've gone. The sort of people who would buy that sort of bike and do that sort of things to are the sort of people who aren't going to ride it that often, it's going to be a posing tool and generally looked after.

Just my opinion

My flat mate has one of these, it is a standard special edition colour scheme.

(Unless of course it has been painted to look like that)

But that colour scheme is a standard SE dark.

See that has different forks to the two on ebay, too. Can't comment on the electrics, mine got re-wired because the bloke before butchered them. I have a very basic loom, 'cause I don't need lights etc.

Yeah they're not that quick, but they're a really nice little engine and can handle pretty well. It's not about the straights Wink

Admit it, you just want a more modern bike without it feeling too modern. You want something a little different from the Jap superbike fair.

Well taking that theme, but a bit more in the sportsbike direction, I'd suggest a triumph tt600. It has a few bad points to give it a bit of character, but good handling, suspension and brakes. You can get a 2000 model for about £1000.

Take the fairings off, and its a naked bike very similar to a speed four.

I've not tried one of these italian poser machines, but I'm sure that under the exotic name tag, my tt600 is the better bike.

If you want an italian twin with a bit of pizazz, how about an aprilia rs250.

or pm bazza as he has a ducati 600ss, and he can tell you why its better than a monster, for i suspect similar money

if you dont like the look of fairings you can just take them off

Complete different bike to the S4, it is much lower and physically smaller has a lower CoG it also has as twin engine with completely different power deliver the monnie redlines at 9k rev of so where as the S4 has only just started the power.

The only things remotely similar about them at they are 600cc naked and not Japanese.

Judging by what I know of Ariel from reading the forum the Ducati would better suit him IMO.
