I don't like mirrors on naked bikes...they tend to look like big shiny nerdy ears and ruin the look, imo, and bar end mirrors are out as they're not good for filtering (especially with wide Renthals).
So, trying to think of some way I could still get some rearward vision but without resorting to mirrors...I suddenly got a flash of inspiration.
The answer is clearly helmet mirrors! I'm thinking of a couple of small mirrors that will stick onto each side of the visor, or even just one side, something no more than say 1cm high and 1.5cm wide.
It shouldn't cut out too much of the existing view (and certainly not the most critical area either) and although the clarity from a small mirror might not be perfect, it should be good enough to at least be able to pick out any vehicles behind you.
The only other downside I can think of is that your eyes would have to adapt to the increased change in focus distances more than you would with normal mirrors, so it might prove slightly more tiring, but apart from that I think it's a great idea and could work!
My first question then has to be; do these exist already?
And second; would any of you unfaired bikers here, who also don't like mirrors, ever consider using such a thing(s)?
Next week: Solar powered headlights.....
Edit: Just found some, but they all tend to be on stalks, rather than just a little wedge you could stick directly onto your visor, which is what I had in mind. ____________________ A Guide To Powerbands

I ride with no mirrors on my bikes full stop. Encourages me to ride with more lifesavers than mirror checks. Plus it looks cool and adds at least 5bhp over 140mph
Try not to ride in Town too much though. ____________________ - Kawasaki ZX636 2005 -

I vaguely remember something being mentioned on the MCN website about there being a lid with some kind of periscope-esque rear view capacity in the top of the visor. No idea if it's any good.
Mirrors are invaluable in the city, but they do encourage the poor practice of not taking lifesavers all the time. I'm thinking of taking them off my 125, just to get back in the habit of looking over my shoulder. ____________________ '10 SV650SF, '83 GS650GT (it lives!), Questionable DIY dash project, 3D Printer project, Lasercutter project |

This page shows how it works but you'd think they'd show what you can hope to see.

One slight problem springs to mind......
PILLION
As to mirrors stuck on the helmet, all that is going to do is increase noise and pull on your neck ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |
